Video/San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom rants about Prop 8
Protests are building around the country to Proposition 8 in California, but we visited the center of a well of anger and hurt feelings, in the mayor’s office in San Francisco. Newsom opened up about Prop 8 and its fallout on his LGBT constituents.
This makes me so sad. I thought that people were kinder, and wiser, in this modern day. ..It will come, it will happen.
We will rise up as a gay community. Together, we are strong my friends! .. Let us lead with love and truth as we move forward..
Gavin Newsom is one man, here in my city of San Francisco. Every one of us has it in us to be as heroic as he. Just imagine what we can accomplish as one group, one community!

Politics is about money. I’m surprised no one has called for a boycott of california products. There are people all over the country who support gay marriage and it would seem in our current economic climate that many of the apologetic, yet inactive, California politicians might be inspired to action and start listening if they saw their political coffers shrinking.
I agree, refering to his speech as a “rant” was highly unprofessional by 365gay.com and indicative of the fact that prior to Prop 8 passing, they most certainly wouldn’t have used that term and are now seeking to label his work using dismissive terms. I suggest 365gay.com start looking at the “leaders” of the “No on 8″ campaign who must have been collected from the “Dumb and Dumber” casting-call rejects line.

I think your words were very well spoken and I would vote for you. Thank you for being a sane voice in this. My best friend has met her true love and I think it is all of our responsibility to speak up for the people we love. For the justness we know to be true. We can’t continue to let people be stripped of their worth…not after all that we learned, considering the depths we had to go to learn this. I feel totally alone here in Fresno but I know that evolution is coming. Thank you so much for being what a man truly is. Thank you for being strong and caring. Your words have meant so much.

Gavin Newsom is my HERO!!! I just LOVE this guy! I not only will vote for him for governor, I will campaign for him! A true outstanding human being!

Props to you for choosing to stand up for something you beleive in..If we can’t have marriage equality, I say LETS vote on how there shouldn’t be DIVORCE for at least 10 years for heterosexual couples without children and if you choose to have children you can’t ever get divorced!!!!! Isn’t that what the Roman Catholic church preachs?? They bring up the Traditional American family, such as whom? one out of every 2 marriages end in divorce? Is that the traditional American family?? Gavin Newsom (no “e” at the end) is truly a hero. It’s just so amazing to see a politician truly stick to principle.
One of the few straight politicians who actually gives a damn about our rights and isn’t afraid to show it. Awesome.

Need I remind everyone that without Mayor Newsome’s civil disobedience we wouldn’t have gotten as far as we have. It was marriages that Mayor Newsome allowed in 2004 that led to the Supreme Court case that ruled in favor of marriage equality.
I find it absurd, offensive and disgusting that people are being so ungrateful, ungracious and downright rude in their treatment of this man.
In my opinion he is a straight pioneer and hero of the gay rights movement
He’s a good guy. I think history will record that Newsome was a civil rights hero. We need more strong, straight allies like him.
why does a pro=gay site use the term “rant” when a pro-gay person speaks out for us? Ranting has bad conontations…can’t he just be speaking out?
