When I first heard that McCain chose a woman for VP, I got very angry at Obama for not doing the same. I seriously considered changing my vote from Obama to McCain. However, after critically analyzing the facts, i.e., that Palin stopped the “bridge to nowhere” but moved the money to another one of her pots, that she doesn’t have regard for her 17 y/o daughter’s privacy and treats her newborn as a pawn, that she strongly believes in teaching creationism in schools, as well as her stance on abortion, there is no way that I would want to be associated with this woman. I think McCain made a big mistake and he will pay for it, whether he wins or not. I can imagine her fighting McCain every step of the way, just as she took on the other republican males in her state. I cannot even begin to think of how she would handle herself with foreign diplomats. Additionally, I’ve read the report on the Kos website about her pregnancy with her newborn. Unfortunately, that report mysteriously disappeared. However, after reading the facts in that report, I’ve become convinced that Palin either was never pregnant and the newborn is her daughter’s child or that she may have been hoping for the worst (you needed to read the report to know what I’m referring to). I don’t believe that her pregnant child should be off limits. This is subject that needs to be addressed especially since the republicans are so aghast at other teenage moms. The bottom line is that I do not see Sarah Palin as a female running mate. I see her as a person who can destroy America’s values and freedoms.

I’m a little puzzled in reference to OUR not liking or voting for McCain/Palin ticket JUST BECAUSE they are who they are. They are decent human beings. They do not hate us as a group!
If you believe that Obama he’s a minority and black will fight for OUR rights IF elected, think again.
I have never been in the closet. And, I have been enraged for many years when it comes to OUR so called rights according to the United States Constitution. C’mon brothers and sisters, WE HAVE NOT PROGRESSED AS MUCH AS WE SHOULD HAVE MANY LONG BEFORE NOW! It’s a fact. It ain’t gonna happen. Not in my lifetime.
IF JOHN MCCAIN IS A MAN OF HIS WORD, AND, I DO BELIEVE THAT HE IS, HE WILL LISTEN TO US ALONG WITH SCIENTIFIC PROOF THAT WE DID NOT CHOOSE THIS LIFESTYLE. THERE IS NO WAY HE OR PALIN CAN DENY US OUR GOD GIVEN RIGHTS AS AMERICANS WHEN ELECTED PRESIDENT. HE’S A FAIR AND HONEST MAN AND WILL FIGHT FOR ALL OF US!!!

Just as a response to Diane. I understand and agree wholeheartedly that MsCain is a good man. But unfortunately what he personally believes does not always win. One must remember that he is a member of the Republican Party which has a specific platform is regards to gay rights. A platform that indicates that gay marriage should not be legalized and that sexual orientation should not be included in hate crimes legislation. So while McCain may believe that everyone is created equal and should have equal rights, the Party he works for does not; and ultimately, he must side the the party that puts him in office.

This was an extremely thoughtful and entertaining discussion. I balked at the 18-minute length, but I’m glad I watched every second! Great job. As a matter of “correcting the record,” the report of Sarah Palin herself actually participating in the Independence Party may have not been correct; however, it seems that her husband Todd was in fact a member at one time.
The unicorn comparison is completely fair and completely apt. The creationism stuff is preposterous. The Republican VP having such views is indeed very troubling. Reminds me of uber-crazy Pat Robertson — who ran for President, in utter seriousness, in 1988.
I think this video was made before Palin’s speech at the Republican convention. It was apparently a well-written speech (for which Palin I’m sure cannot take credit) and well-delivered (for which Palin does deserve some credit). But we all need to get back to the realities of her (a) severe lack of qualifications, (b) her crazy-conservative, Pat Robertson-type views, and (c) McCain’s age and health. This is seriously troubling stuff.
I’m trying to figure out what I personally can do to help Obama.

Seeing pictures of John McCain posing with Jerry Farwell makes me think how anyone gay with average IQ or above would vote for McCain. I think some of my gay brothers and sisters must have internalized too much homophobia. Have you forgotten the GOP bumper sticker during the early 90s…..AIDS killing all the right people? Give me a break. If you want to stay oppressed, keep voting for republicans…look at the statistics for the increase in hate crimes against LGBT since Republicans took office. Next, McCain is the reason that finance reform exist, but I guess some of you have already forgotten about the Keating 5 scandal. He will worse than BUSH.

You must be joking…
Yes SP is a fresh face on the scene and on the SURFACE the kind one wants, kind’a an outspoken, tough minded woman with conviction. Hell I’d take that in a BF any day! McCain has some merit as well, but enough with the I was tortured card, its so calculated not to be disrespectful.
Can any GLBT member really look in the mirror and I say I support a McCain/Palin ticket. As a recently out man I am floored that it’s even a question considering their views. I really don’t get how you could vote R or D and not on the platform that each candidate is taking, yet I speak with what I know are smart people who are all over the map with how they vote.
Maybe it would be helpful for the entire gay population that is on the fence or pro republican at any cost to spend ONE, yes 1 month in a REAL anti gay community say like the middle east where they kill you vs say slurs and get that YOU are potentially giving our minimal collective rights away with a M/P vote. And that also includes the nomination of at least the next 3 supreme court justices. I simply do not get it.
