Rick Warren: Friend or foe to gay Americans?
Megachurch pastor Rick Warren gets a high-profile spot in the Obama Inauguration. See why the new president chose him, why the gay community is upset, and why some say Warren is actually a sign of progress for LGBT America. Craig Feigener reports.

Seems the creators of this video missed the Saddleback church website fiasco, and the Ssempa condom-burning and gay-outing campaigns. Rick Warren is not gay-inclusive, except to the extent gays accept our second-class status, and try to become straight or asexual. He’s simply the friendlier face of the same old line. This piece was supposed to tell us why Obama picked Warren. I’m still waiting…
He thinks being gay is equivalent to pedophilia, incest, and polygamy by his own words. What garbage. So does Warren support insurance rights, and hospital visitation, etc., for child rapists and their victims, and for incestuous couples and for polygamists, since he supports these for gays? I mean, if they are equivalent, as he says he believes they all are, surly it’s equally just. He can’t believe in treating any of these groups any differently from one another. That would be recognition that there’s a difference.
If anyone actually thinks Rick Warren is not dangerous, please check out this video (and others!) on YouTube: please share it with your friends! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRctKSeyQ-s
What the heck does this monster (warren) and his religion have to do with gay marriage anyway?
Separation of church and state. Have we all forgotten.
Who cares what religion thinks.
This is a civil issue not a religious one.
We all know that Rick Warren is no friend of the gay community.
I and many. many other people have registered our protest to the Obama people over the extreme inappropriateness of Rick Warren giving the invocation.
I will watch the inauguration from a friend’s TV. My friend lives in Northeast DC somewhat close to the Maryland state line and far from where the inauguration is going to be. 4 million people in DC in one day alone when the city’s resident population is roughly about 45.000. This is a small city compared to say NY City. DC is only a few miles wide at the widest point from the western to the eastern city borders., On the poll I clicked that I am going to DC true, but I am not attemping to move through such a huge crowd, and stand in the cold, etc when the only good view I would likely get is from a TV screen.
And food will be far easier to get at my friend’s house.
The chances of getting around on the metro trains are too difficult when Metro is advising people that their best bet is to walk.
When Warren’s time to speak arrives, I likely will turn my back to the TV to avoid having to look at this infamous Prop H8 supporter.
That Rick Warren cares about AIDS today does not do much to move him out of the intolerant bigot column in my estimation. When AIDS was seen as a primarily gay issue, there were no evangelicals who cared about it; in fact they obstructed the appropriate level and timeliness of the response to the crisis. Had Warren been preachifying then, and using broader issues to boost a mainstream popularity, I would bet that he would not have chosen AIDS as a cause. Now that he is in cahoots with extremist African religious leaders on the issue of AIDS on that continent, I’m not going to agree that his “humanitarian” efforts offset the great harm that he is doing. Neither Warren nor Obama get off the hook on that count. (Google Martin Ssempa and Rick Warren to see one example of the value of Warren’s AIDS network.) Rick Warren can only be good for anyone if an enormously visible figure like Obama stops overlooking and starts denouncing the man’s intolerant words and deeds. Jeremiah Wright must be shaking his head and wondering if you have to be white to say heinous things and STILL get to be Obama’s sidekick.
Just remember that Warren is actually (educated at least) as a southern baptist, the people who gave America segregation, if not also slavery. It is no longer fashionable to discriminate against Blacks, so he, in true conservative Christian tradition, has another group to hate.
If it was 1932 in Germany, and Warren was there, he would be preaching Seig Heil, Mein Fuhrer. Same mentality. Don’t let his nice guy persona fool you. In WWII, nazi officers who were able to have their families in the nearest town, would go home to play with their children, after ordering the throwing Jewish children into the ovens.
Same mentality. And the Holocaust of the Jews was enabled by christianity’s long hatred of the Jews, which hitler used to gain power.
