So… er… Why doesn’t my beloved Obama and his partner Michelle exchange THEIR marriage certificate for a civil union. BECAUSE THEY KNOW it’s NOT the same. Separate is not equal. Marriage is the bus gays sit in the back of, it’s the ‘white only sign” for us.

Barack, I voted for you, I’m a lifelong democrat, and I’m gay….I am pleased you’re against Prop 8 however I am disappointed that you don’t support gay marriage, I think you’re only pandering to the religious nutjobs (Mormons, catholics, baptists, etc) who are trying to force their narrow minded bigotry on the rest of the USA. But i’m not really surprised, you ARE a politician, and politicians say whatever they need to, to get elected. Hopefully you’ll prove me wrong and secretly do support gay marriage but can’t say it in public becuase the hateful repukelicans will use that against you. It’s sad an insane minority like these religious haters can control the country with their discrimination and intolerance.

Please, please do not try to compare the gay issues to what black people struggle with, and why is religion always brought up I personally know gay people thatsay they believe in God and quote all kind of scripture they believe is a blessing, but want to disregard everything else. Sorry, it doesn’t work that way. It’s sad but gays are truly the haters starting with yourselves.

How can you be against Prop8 AND be against gay marriage?

Using the same standards critisize different types of discrimination is not making a moral comparison. It’s just not using a double standard.
If we know it’s wrong to discriminate against people based on gender, religion, ethnicity OR race…then it’s only logical that we should not discriminate based on sexual orientation.
This is not equating, it’s just applying the same logic.
Secondly, the civil rights laws set precedents. Gays will have to follow in the legal footsteps of other minorities because that is how our system works. We have to reference the Civil Rights act, Loving vs Virginia and the 14th Amendment because they set the precedent for our claim to civil rights. There’s no way around it.
