this is the teresa this happened to. I'd like to point out that it is NOT a violation of MS terms of service or code of conduct to identify yourself as gay/lesbian/straight whatever. The reason I was supsended given to me by microsoft was because, 'other players found my profile offensive'. When I told MS that being a lesbian is NOT offensive, I got no answer or comment back. So xbox CHOSE to suspend me, plain and simple..hence means xbox sided with the homophobes. And randy is right..more people need to be involved. Its not just things posted in profiles, its the verbal abuse during the games which no one reports because 99% of the gamers say the same slurs. And its obvious the self gamer policed system doesnt work, because for the many years xbox live has been on, its still the SAME homophobic climate it ever was. So its obvious it doesnt work. and steve's apologies mean nothing. They didnt apologize, nor try to fix this until it got all over the internet and big fuss made. Sorry to you MS..too little too late.

this is teresa, the subject of this news story. I'd like to add, and make clear it is NOT a violation of terms of service or code of conduct to post your sexual orientation, nor to identify yourself as anything. You can go to xbox live's website and read their TOS yourself if you dont believe me. Hence, microsoft CHOSE to suspend me because other players found it offensive that I'm a lesbian, hence microsoft sided with the homophobes. Stated from MS if their email to me about the suspension, they said because 'other players found my profile offensive'. And when I go to ask how is being a lesbian offensive? They give me no answer. Their apolgies mean nothing. Too little, too late.

So, does nobody from Microsoft ever actually monitor what goes on? All it would take is a few spot checks every day, and publicly (and permanently) disabling the accounts that violate the terms of service regarding anti-gay and other harassment, and the problem would go down fast from 90% to 10%. From the clip provided, it seemed like they were just going to let some automated software deal with it, and that's not going to be effective at all. They'll simply use f@gg0t instead of the actual word, for example. And computers aren't going to interpret human speech in real time. Actual humans need to be involved. But again, it seems like they don't want to take the responsibility for that, and instead just hand this job off to the computers.
