Voices from the floor: Rebecca Prozan
Jennifer Vanasco: How did you become a delegate?
Rebecca Prozan: I ran for it – there were 55 candidates, about 700 votes, and I was number one.
JV: Is this your first convention?
RP: It is my first convention, but not my first campaign. I was nine when Ted Kennedy ran against Jimmy Carter for president. All of my family was for Kennedy – I was the only one who supported Carter. So to see him walk across the stage tonight blew me away.
JV: Why do you support Obama?
RP: This election is so important for our community.
It will make such a difference. Ending Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, so that our men and women can serve with pride in the military; passing a transgender-inclusive anti-discrimination bill, which Barack is very ready to do- he already supported a similar bill in Illinois; and with gay marriage, we want someone with us 100 percent. He’s come out strongly against every initiative across the country that would ban gay marriage. I delivered his letter – his actual, physical letter – that congratulated the couples in California who got married.
In this election, like no other, we must do everything we can to get every single LGBT to vote for Obama.
JV: What has been your favorite convention moment so far?
RP: Ted Kennedy. It’s the first time I heard gay from the stage today. He’s no stranger to civil rights – he knows how important this election is. He knows what divides us. He knows gay rights are civil rights.
My other favorite moment was in the LGBT caucus today, when the chair called out each state, and there were delegates from almost every state. And the guy next to me said, Rebecca, four years ago there were 30 people in this room. That was amazing.

geo, we don’t need to ‘release’ the Repugs…we need to throw them out on their b****. The sooner the better. Lets all get balls and become Americans that want to build an ethical country again. I surely hope all the Repugs enjoy their oil money … but most are so old they don’t probably enjoy much anyway.
Get him in…..then immediately start work to repeal DOMA and DADT and pass fully-inclusive ENDA. NO ON PROP 8.
…and I say down with HET divorces let them stew in their own ‘perfect marriage’ juices.
My whole concern is that we need a change in the white house and my opinion is that we need to release the republicans from the white house and make room for another democratic. Hilary was my choice but not all of AMERICA. SO I will suppport Obama just to get a democratic in the house. George Bush Senior took the white house and we had the GULF WAR. Clinton came in we were fine and dandy. George Bush Jr comes in we are in war again. So obviously we need a change……. We need to unite as LGBT to get our message across. GO DEMOCRATS !!!!! peace love and war… lol….
Robert, what in the world you are talking about. His policies are clear on barackobama.com and they are consistent in his book Audacity of Hope. The only policy that he does not support the LGBT community fully is full gay marriage, where he supports civil unions instead. However, even he says in his book that that history will prove him wrong on this and his view on this may change. I do not see a candidate that supports our issues other than him.
No. I will not vote for him.
He is no different than any other politician. He has come down against our equality, and expects us to follow him anyways. I am tired of settling, I want my voice to be heard.
‘Change you can believe in’ is nothing but a catch phrase.
No to Obama.
No. I will not vote for that man, he is no different than any other candidate. The important issues he has either come down against or has tapped danced around. ‘Change You Can Believe In’ is worthless without defining what will be changed, and how he plans on doing it. In this, at least, my voice will finally be heard.
No to Obama.
