365 Gay: Living

The 8 top gay videos of 2008

, editor in chief, 365gay.com

This year, gay videos were viral.

From Keith Olbermann’s surprisingly emotional take on gay marriage to the musical that made us laugh, 2008 was the year that gay news made good video.

Here are our picks for the gay videos that made the most impact this year.

As always, we welcome your additions in the comments.

1. Prop 8: The Musical!

This sly, star-studded response to Prop 8 – starring Jack Black as Jesus – made the economic case for gay marriage in such a funny, subversive way, you can’t help but sing along.

2. Keith Olbermann: Gay marriage is a question of love

Keith Olbermann stunned viewers with his six-minute rant on why the Prop 8 vote was wrong, saying, “Why does this matter to you? What is it to you? In a time of impermanence and fly-by-night relationships these people over here want the same chance at permanence and happiness that is your option.”

    • “To the ?person who thinks Keith Olberman is an idiot….. Millions of listeners think otherwise. BTW way, what is YOUR contribution to society? What is YOUR annual income?”

Of course, your argument applies even more so to Rush Limbaugh Since his income is much higher than Olbermann’s, your logic says Limbaugh is even more correct (and has a greater societal contribution) than Olbermann.

    • Olberman’s not an idiot. That’s silly. He’s a very successful pundit. He’s too sentimental for my taste, but oh well; at least he’s a liberal.

    • Being a Gay White Latino male and having a 12yr relationship. I found Jon Stewart’s interview with Governer Mike Huckawhananotbee so amazingly satisfying, bias free, emotionlly moving that I now have the upmost respect to Mr. Stewart. Job Well Done Sir. Love Ya!

    • People say there’s nothing in the Constitution anywhere about Gay Marriage, to which I say, there was nothing about marriage being between “one man and one woman” either, (otherwise, why would there have been a call to add the words on Nov 4. 2008?) Now, if Prop 8 truly is to be taken literally & enacted as Kenneth Starr claims he would have it, this very same “clear” amendment verbiage would not only unfairly nullify 18,000 legal gay marriages; it necessarily nullifies (with equal “clarity”) the validity of any & all prior/future straight divorces, too (Prop 8 “clearly” stops short of explaining “one man & one woman ‘at one time’”.) Hence anyone’s 2nd, 3rd, 4th…etc. marriages would likewise be voided by way of Prop 8’s very same “simplicity”: the wording of Prop 8 implies that one man/woman couple’s 1st marriage supersedes, voiding recognition of any subsequent marriage(s) or divorce settlements. Straight or Gay, Prop 8 can’t/won’t be applied equally, thus it MUST be stricken.

    • I nominate that Rick and Steve puppet TV show in SF as #9. Technically it lasted for 30 min, but it was still video. It was great!

    • I agree with Buchanan that the basic purpose of marriage is for creating the next generation. That’s why I think we should ban non-fertile people and those past reproductive age from the privilege of marrying. Also, in order to protect the sanctity of marriage, divorce should be outlawed…
