Stottlemyer: Pat Robertson spouts more nonsense

Earlier today, 700 Club host, televangelist, and frequent homophobe Pat Robertson said that people are “made homosexual because of a coach or a guidance counselor or some other male figure who has abused them.”

Really, Pat? I’m sorry, but when were the gay penguins abused? And I assure you, I have never received abuse by any male figures in my life.

You tell this mother that she must “accept” her son, but then tell him to change. That, Mr. Robertson, is not acceptance.  True acceptance would be for this mother to love her son regardless of whether he dates men or women and not constantly tell him that he is going to hell unless he “chooses” to be straight again.

It’s sad to think that men like Robertson, who seem so backwards and ignorant, have huge followings who end up helping things like Proposition 8 get passed in California. Let’s hope we can listen to the opinions of people like Rev. Gene Robinson and align ourselves with more progressive religious leaders and groups. Hopefully then we’ll be able to take away the control the religious right has regarding religious and moral arguments on marriage.

    • pat robertson is such a moran – every time he opens his mouth stupidity just rolls out! i think that he has even lost the respect of his followers – i believe that even they cringe when he speaks! i was going to ask why people like him never get assassinated but then i remembered that its the crazy people that follow him that do the assassinating.

    • OH. MY. GOD. I *wish* my high school gym teachers had molested me. One was a hairy, balding daddy; the other was a long, tall, swimmer type. They showered with us (!) … they were *both* hung like *centaurs*. I *did* manage to pull the Marine recruiter my senior year … and yeah, everything they say about Marines and bottoms is true .

Why can’t the fascists of the Irreligious Wrong just “Live And Let Fraak??!!”

    • Another example of right wing terrorists using a church for cover, and the lack of a good education in our schools. When we get rid of the current residents of Gitmo, there would be room for the Pat Robertson. What is his education to qualify him to be a reverend?

    • This old dude is on his way out. Within a few years he’ll be gone forever. In 50 years nobody will know who he was or even care because those who care now will also be dead.

    • Being outside their area of specialty never stops these nutjobs… like Dr. Laura, isn’t her degree in Biology?… Pat Robertson can blow me.

    • As a Life Consultant trained in counseling psychology, this kind of statement really frustrates me. If this statement were true, it should be *easy* to look up the research to verify it. The problem is no such valid, peer-reviewed research in recognized professional-organization publications exists.

He’s making this stuff up. I wish it were easier to call him on it in front of his listeners. He’s way outside his area of expertise, here.

    • I have been watching this fool since I was ten years old. He has said the same things over and over again (repeat a lie often enough and it will become “true”).
Then a few years ago I wrote a question to his “Bring it on” segment. I wrote, “My wife died a several years back I haven’t re-married since. Our now teenage son had a sleep over and I woke up with his friend sitting on my bed. He informed me he thought he was gay and wanted me as his first experience. What should I do?” I signed it Draigh Lunara (no need to add the Reverend part).
Pat’s response was to tell him all about he male love of Jesus and how it is only that male love that was acceptable. He also changed my name to Drew.
Perhaps he and his research team realized that my name means Dragon, perhaps not.
I firmly believe that we need to confront these people every single time we meet them. Point out the lunacy of their words and actions, which usually are more hypocritical and un-Christian than the real non-believers.
In the words of Ghandi, “I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ.”

    • For one who is currently being attacked by two churches for being gay. I can personally attest to the pain, abuse, and money this ignorance perpetuates. I really don’t understand why so called Christians are so focused on this subject. The Bible mentions homosexuality just 2 times. Once in Leviticus where not obeying your parents and homosexuality are punishable by stoning. This was written in the early bronze age 3500 years ago. And then in Romans by the zealot Paul a previous analytical Pharasee who converted to Christianity on the road to Damascas. This guy never even met Jesus.Judgement is talked about 33 times. Jesus never spoke about homosexuality even in the so called heretical Gnostic Gospels. This is all about power and control as it was in ancient days. It also gives peachers and priests a wedge issue to help unite their congregations against someone. In the most recent genetic findings which need additional research. There is a difference on the 28th chromosome between gay men and straight men. When this is finally proven these so called Christians will have to eat crow. Additionally, our laws will immediadately have to be changed because just like dark skin we can’t change who we are and how we are born.

    • Well, I was not abused by anyone and I’m very gay. The problem I had in accepting myself is that I came out in the 60s and was in “reparative therapy” for 6 long painful years. I am not in a 28 year old gay relationship and am quite happy. Sorry Pat — your words are false!

    • This nut job isn’t dead yet? Pat, you’ve most definitely “stayed too long at the fair”. Do S.T.F.U. already.
