Stottlemyer: Pat Robertson spouts more nonsense

Earlier today, 700 Club host, televangelist, and frequent homophobe Pat Robertson said that people are “made homosexual because of a coach or a guidance counselor or some other male figure who has abused them.”

Really, Pat? I’m sorry, but when were the gay penguins abused? And I assure you, I have never received abuse by any male figures in my life.

You tell this mother that she must “accept” her son, but then tell him to change. That, Mr. Robertson, is not acceptance.  True acceptance would be for this mother to love her son regardless of whether he dates men or women and not constantly tell him that he is going to hell unless he “chooses” to be straight again.

It’s sad to think that men like Robertson, who seem so backwards and ignorant, have huge followings who end up helping things like Proposition 8 get passed in California. Let’s hope we can listen to the opinions of people like Rev. Gene Robinson and align ourselves with more progressive religious leaders and groups. Hopefully then we’ll be able to take away the control the religious right has regarding religious and moral arguments on marriage.

Ed. note: Cory is 365gay’s new intern! Please welcome him!

    • On the plus side, Robinson is about to follow my grandmother’s advice. “Once my generation is dead”, she says, “you’ll finally have equal rights.” This is a generational struggle. It’s a sad truth, but she’s an incredibly prescient woman. And Robinson will be dead soon enough.

    • Pat Robertson is every bit of the antichrist that religion claims to be afraid of

    • You know, of course, that no xian is born (or even re-born) that way. It’s only because they were abused by some xian coach or teacher or – gasp! – parent. But they don’t have to stay that way! There is Good News! They *can* change – it’s true! With counselling and support they can transform their degraded chosen lifestyle and become normal like the rest of us. They only have to stop believing in that Imaginary Friend that makes them do such horrible things to each other and to everyone else.

    • A lot of people don’t realize that his real name is Marion Robertson, so he was fucked up to begin with. A lot of kids probably teased him about his name and called him a girl. He also gave up his ordination as a Baptist minister in 1988 which means he shouldn’t be called “Reverend” Pat Robertson anymore. Also, according to Forbes, Robertson’s net worth is estimated to be in excess of $34 million dollars. Some have estimated it as between $200 million and $1 billion. Ka-ching! and the fools keep sending in their nickels and dimes. Sucka’s!

Second, he’s an old fart that will soon be joining Jerry Falwell in hell and his 700 club will fall to pieces. Last time he had a “live” audience on the show, everyone they showed were old farts and blue-haired old ladies. As they all die off, so will the resistance to GLBT rights because the percentage of young kids today that accept homosexuality is very high. It’s a non-issue to many of them.

Third, he excels at spouting ridiculous crap, just like Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity and the former Jerry “Fatwell”, because that is how they obtain more publicity than money can buy!

Fourth, my husband sent him a totally fictitious letter one time. It actually got read on the air in his “Bring it on” segment! It was signed “Draigh” but they name was changed to “Drew” and the letter went on to say that “my son had a 16 year old friend stay overnight and I woke up to find him fondling me and he said that he wanted me to be his first gay experience, what should I do”? Patty went on to say that we shouldn’t tell his parents, which would embarass him, and that we should probably get him some church counseling and sit him down and explain that he is confused! Yeesh! We laughed our asses off!

    • Hi Cory!

If nothing else, at least Robertson’s mouthing has generated a new music video from Garfunkel and Oates. Youtube “Sex with Ducks” and check it out!

    • Has anyone seen Robertson and Bat Boy together? Are they one and the same?

  • Chuck in Chicago Said: June 9th, 2009 at 7:17 pm
    • Cory, please. Just ignore him. All he wants is attention.

He’s said so many stupid things that no one really pays attention any more.

    • Come on guys give Pat Robertson a break he was made “an ignorant heterosexual because of a coach or a guidance counselor or some other female figure who has abused them.”

    • Has anybody thought about putting this man into a psychiatric unit to be evaluated for what few brain cells that he has left. Robertson certainly needs to be seen for dementia or at least alzheimers.

  • V$ Said: June 9th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
    • But what about lesbians? Stop forgetting about us in your bigotry Pat!

  • JERRY Said: June 9th, 2009 at 6:28 pm
    • Apparently “Pattie” was/is not aware of the American Psychiatric Association and that he is NOT qualified by education or professional credentials to make statements regarding sexual orientation! These people amaze me with there nonsense!!!!

  • a BeachBum On STX Said: June 9th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
    • the mental abuse heaped upon us by misguided zealots like Mr. Robertson causes more damage to gay youth than I can imagine. How can someone actually believe that he is a man of “God” and espouse such nonsense and hatred as he does.

      *sigh*

  • inkky jet Said: June 9th, 2009 at 6:19 pm
    • Pat, haven’t you been around long enough; perhaps you’ll soon enter the next life, and do a bit of coaching there!

OMG, how much longer do we have to listen to this old fart anyway?
