Frankly, passing effective hate crimes legislation and ending Don't Ask; Don't Tell (just lie) must be the two highest priorities-- and yes, the President needs to use the bully pulpit to get these passed. And yes, the LGBT community needs to push to make all these things happen. Those who cannot be in Washington on the October 10th & 11th, need to push for action through other activities: letters to legislators and phone calls.
