(New York City) A gay man involved in a bitter custody battle with his estranged husband has been arrested after stepping off a plane from Israel where he had fled with the son he and his former partner were raising.

Eric Hyett, 37, is charged with custodial interference.

Hyett and Joshua Glazer, 29, were married in Massachusetts four years ago and lived in New York City. They separated last year.

While still together they adopted a boy they named Jedidiah shortly after his birth, when the boy’s mother, a friend of the couple’s, gave him up.

When then couple’s breakup turned nasty the battle centered around the boy, now 23 months old.

After the couple separated a court awarded Glazer primary custody and Hyett visitation rights.

Under the court terms Hyett was allowed to see the boy every weekend.

Earlier this month Hyett asked to keep the boy two extra days so that he could take Jedidiah to Boston to visit his grandparents and Glazer agreed.

Hyett fled with the child to Jerusalem. Police returned Jedidiah to Glazer ten days ago.

Hyett returned to the US voluntarily. Police said it was doubtful Hyett could be extradited to face child abduction charges in the US.

He was arrested in Boston at Logan Airport and waived extradition to New York.

Wednesday afternoon he was arraigned in a Manhattan court.

Police say they believe it to be the first abduction case in New York City involving a married gay couple in memory.

A New York City boy kidnapped by one of his two gay fathers has been reunited with the other, his legal guardian.

(Jerusalem) A New York City boy kidnapped by one of his two gay fathers has been reunited with the other, his legal guardian. But police in Israel where the boy was taken have not have not decided whether to bring charges.

Eric Hyett fled New York with 23-month old Jedidiah earlier this month, during a long custody fight with Joshua Glazer.

Hyett claimed that Glazer had ignored offers to settle for a year, but Glazer, in an interview with the New York Daily News said that Hyett is the problem, calling him “manipulative.”

The two men were married in Massachusetts four years ago and lived in New York City. They separated last year.

Jedidiah was adopted shortly after birth, when the boy’s mother, a friend of the couple’s, gave him up.

Glazer said the marriage failed after Jedidiah was adopted because “Eric became extremely jealous of the time I was spending with our baby.”

After the couple separated, a court awarded Glazer primary custody and Hyett visitation rights.

Under the court terms, Hyett was allowed to see the boy every weekend.

This month, Hyett asked to keep the boy two extra days so that he could take Jedidiah to Boston to visit his grandparents and Glazer agreed.

It was the last time Glazer saw the boy until Thursday, when Jerusalem police found the boy and reunited him with Glazer.

“It’s the most wonderful feeling in the world to have him back,” Glazer told the Post by phone from Israel. “I was really so happy to see he was OK and well. He was a little dirty and hadn’t been bathed, but none of that mattered.”

Authorities in Israel say they are looking at international law before deciding whether to arrest Hyett and return him to New York to face charges of custodial interference.

Police in New York say they believe it to be the first abduction case in New York City in memory involving a married gay couple.

A man who married his partner in Massachusetts has abducted their son, police say.

(New York City) A gay man involved in a bitter battle with his estranged husband has fled the country with their 23-month old son.

Eric Hyett and his son Jedidiah have surfaced in Israel. In an interview with the New York Daily News, Hyett blames the ugly property and custody battle on Joshua Glazer, who Hyett claims has for a year ignored offers to settle.

Glazer tells The News that Hyett is the problem, calling him “manipulative.”

The two men were married in Massachusetts four years ago and lived in New York City. They separated last year.

Jedidiah was adopted shortly after birth, when the boy’s mother, a friend of the couple’s, gave him up.

“I was right there in the delivery when Jed was born,” Glazer told The News, “but not Eric.”

Last week, Hyett asked to keep the boy two extra days so that he could take Jedidiah to Boston to visit his grandparents and Glazer agreed.

It was the last time Glazer saw the boy.

Police tell The News that Hyett sent an e-mail to Glazer’s former attorney saying he and the boy had arrived in Tel Aviv. In the e-mail Glazer gave his phone number and said, “You won’t see your son again.”

“I pray to God the baby’s safe, but this is a crazy man,” Glazer told The News. “He kidnapped my son. He’s obviously unstable …He’ll stop at nothing to hurt me and my family.”

Police say they believe it to be the first abduction case in New York City involving a married gay couple in memory. Police also say it is doubtful Hyett could be extradited to face child abduction charges in the US. He could, however, be charged if he sets foot again on US soil.
