Hundreds of thousands of MSM have died as a result of anal sex. Clean up your own act before criticizing other people. The most important right is life itself. There was a time when gay identified Men were not plagued by disease and death. If some of you claim that you are gay then why do you try to imitate heteroerotic behavior. To some of you young men you do have a choice. To those of you choose to censor this post its because you don’t have a leg to stand on or do not have the guts to do so. @ Jon, the Catholic Church has a long history of taking ridiculous positions. Catholics are entitled to Equal rights but that doesn’t mean the Pope should get a free pass for his ill-advised speeches or Bronze-Age beliefs.

Especially when people will die or suffer from his stance.

Excellent article. Why be surprised by another blunder highlighting the Vatican’s timeless propensity to safeguard antiquated doctrines over the well-being of Noah’s children(e.g. Humanity)? As a cradle Catholic, I was surprised and delightfully so by John XXIII’s tremendous attempt to lead the Church towards the times in which we live, but not so much surprised as deeply hurt by the mindless, powerful right-wing backlash to the Council (I will not mention the reactionary bishop’s name, he doesn’t deserve the publicity!) Moreover, I am forever appalled by the North American clergy sex-scandals that have drained a cool 2.6 billion dollars from Church coffers so far (see last week’s National Catholic Reporter). The Vatican’s current, shameful refusal to support world-wide decriminalization of homosexuality is best understood in the words of Prof. Louis Crompton of Nebraska University: a deduction from the enormous debt Western Civilization owes to the healthier side of Christianity. As thinking Catholics, we may do well to at least consider Helminiak’s proposal to transcend religion, nurture our gay spirituality and live as best we can by the Golden Rule. Bravo Amnesty.

It is quite easy to know. There is this new thing called scientific research, and it has proven beyond the shadow of a doubt (no, YOU look it up) that the availability of condoms does not increase the number of AIDS cases in a given population. It has also been proven that making condoms more available does not to increases in unprotected sex (what an insane, twisted logic idea the fundies are pushing with that crap!).

Nice rhetoric. Lousy logic. Condoms have been available practically forever, and birth control methods have also always been available, though they were cruder. The idea that condoms and birth control had anything to do with the so-called, over-hyped by fundies, “sexual revolution” of the 60s (What ever happened to that so-called “sexual revolution, anyway? Just vanished I guess, or the current morality police have completely revoked its permit to exist?).

Oh, you are too kind. “Let folks have the condoms.” As if “folks” need yours, the pope’s or anyone else’s permission to protect their own life.

It is soooo “black and white”, and only our time’s versions of the same old anti-sex fundamentalists that have always harrassed human beings are introducing any doubts about the availability of condoms saving lives by attacking sex in general, gays in particular.

What’s the matter, you don’t know or can’t admit the existence a true international enemy of healthy sex and healthy sexual people when you hear one?

The Catholic “Church” has been responsible for more deaths than Hitler, and anyone who doubts that needs to look at the history of that self agrandizing organization.

If the “Church” were actually as caring for the human race as they claim to be, they’d sell off all that gauche finery they have and FEED people.

Personally, I would not shed one tear if the earth opened up and consumed St. Peter’s Basillica and all the priests WITH it.

The Pope is just a retreaded Nazi, nothing more, nothing less. The sooner he AND the “Church” fail, the better.
