Actually, the California legislature enacted marriage equality laws twice but the Republican Governor vetoed them, saying that he preferred to have the issue settled by the courts. So very much like the Republicans -- they wanted the issue decided legislatively until the Leg decided against them, at which point they announced they wanted the courts to make the decision, until the courts decided against them, at which point they wanted to put it to a vote of the entire population and invite the lies and massive financial contributions of thousands of out-of-state donors to fund the ballot question. Now that they have FINALLY got what they wanted, they whine that those of us who feel betrayed aren't treating them with civility and forbearance for their hatefulness and dishonesty during the campaign. Screw them. I came out several years before Stonewall and was disowned by my family for it, I've lived through years of this BS, and I'm no more inclined to accept second-class status now than I was when I was still young and vigorous enough to throw things during demonstrations -- I'll just use different tactics to fight it, is all.

Obama is just another filthy, lying, centrist, hypocritical, sell-out politician. There is no hope in trusting him, nor any goddamn politician. There is no reason to be happy about having him as president, nor is there substance to be found in his speeches. He is just another government tool who will whore himself out to the evil of the US and step on the people he cannot support (LGBT people) in fear of losing trashy middle-america and his political career. Replacing a homophobic government puppet with a slightly less homophobic puppet is not progress. If you trust the government elite to get off their high horses and bring about real change, you are naive and sorely mistaken.

For that matter, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson both lost fathers at an early age, and Alexander Hamilton was a bastard.

Gay people need to keep the heat on Obama and the Democrats. ENDA MUST be passed within the first administration. Hate crimes laws MUST be passed within the first administration. We cannot let these things go. They are absolutely critical. KEEP THE HEAT ON!
