I agree with the Author, if Adam had won, he would be limited on how far he could go and at what speed. The only Idols I can clearly remember is, Kelly Clarkson & Carrie Underwood - you hear both of these talented women daily on the radio. Fantasia Barrino is a very talented woman also, but, her 1st album sucked because she was limited to what she could sing. Non-winner, Chris Daughtry, is a household name due to his talent.

I feel certain that Adam will be around for decades to come. He can be compared to, Freddie Mercury, Elton John with his theatrical talents. Fans loved the music because of their talent, not by who they slept next to @ night.

I hate the fact the we live in a country that is prejudiced by what society "may" think will happen. there are too many expectations put upon people by society. I do not have a College Degree, but I am the Director of Administration for a Globally-known Vacation Industry leader. I moved up solely on Talent, not by merit, which is how most people move up in this country.

Don't judge a book by it's cover.

I don't think that homophobia was a really big factor in the vote. It may be that Danny's fans liked Kris's style better than Adam's, and so voted for him. They're both amazing artists, and I was not surprised by the outcome. It could have just as easily been Adam winning the competition.

I don't watch AI, but saw some of the performances on the Web to see what all the chatter was about. Adam's voice blew me away. Look for his tune from Brigadoon on YouTube.

Kris sounded pretty good, but it scares me to watch him. Has anyone else noticed all the tension in the back of his jaw? If he keeps singing like that, he's going to sound like Kim Carnes in about 10 years. Also, someone please teach him how to sing a long ee vowel.

Adam Lambert fans don’t need to fret; not being the winner may actually work in his favor. For starters, he doesn’t have to release that melody-less song “No Boundaries” as his first single. Whatever success he would have had as the winner will come to him now, and he may even get more attention because of the perceived upset.

Adam gave me great pride. It was the first time a gay person, just being themselves, stood on the idol stage and out performed much of the performing world to include idol but not limited to idol. The world.

While people gave their opinions that he could win if he just toned down his gayness, Adam kept it coming on strong. I was never more proud when his last performance with Kiss began with him wearing what appeared to be metal wings, shiny handcuffs and large platform shoes. His makeup was perfection. His nail polish divine. He stood their singing in all his Gay Glory and etched a memory I will have in my soul forever.

In that moment he was a free man to be the individual god created him to be and how lucky we all are to be able to enjoy him. Adam Lambert showed me why we are struggling for equality. He deserved to be allowed on that stage, allowed to be himself and humanity deserves to have him as part of its most beautiful tapestry.

I gotta say. If you've been on American Idol, that's pretty gay. If you watch it, that's really gay. If you care about who wins? HOMO. So what's with all the homophobia just seems super closeted, each year getting gayer than the last. American Idol is gay. No matter who wins. It's also quite trite and jumped the shark years ago.

One suspects that Lambert's loss was predictable if not foreordained. When the public has a choice between "a nice, clean-cut [straight] boy" like Allen (actual description on a blog I read), and a quasi-"out" and fairly ostentatiously gay guy like Lambert, the outcome is probably a foregone conclusion.

Canadians who watched the show, and who, presumably, are a little less uptight about gays, were frustrated because they could not vote. Even if permitted to do so, they would probably have to fight for a line: the phones were probably jammed by homophobes who knew Lambert was the more talented of the two but couldn't own up to it.

We still have a long way to go.

From what I can see, American Idol tends to feature stereotypically hetero performers. So, it has probably built up an audience that's most comfortable with performers who seem straight. I'm sure people who wouldn't discriminate are out there, there just aren't so many watching and voting on American Idol.

What happens when you get one really good performer who seems gay competing with a bunch of performers who don't? As the seemingly straight performers are eliminated, their voters gravitate to other seemingly straight performers. In the end, even when the gay performer is the most talented, the last seemingly straight performer gets all the seemingly straight votes and wins.

Of course, this only happens if people are voting at least partly based on perceived sexual orientation. So yeah, I think there's a good chance that Lambert lost because he's gay.

Times are changing. Someday an Adam Lambert will win. Someday a Brokeback Mountain will get best picture. Before then, ENDA will pass and DADT will be repealed - because it's easier to admit that we shouldn't be discriminated against than to recognize when one of us is the very best.

For the first time in a long time (if ever) I am disappointed in a Corvino column. I have felt so alienated by all the Adam Lambert publicity the last few weeks, and especially by the assumptions everyone makes that since he and I (presumably) share a sexual orientation, he is automatically my favorite. Nope. Sexual orientation may play a role in some aspects of my life, but not necessarily in my taste in music and performers.

To get yet another dose of Adam Lambert here, of all places, was a disappointment, especially when I have learned to expect something a little more intellectually stimulating as respite for those who seem to demand that part of my sexuality be an automatic subscription to certain aspects of pop culture.

"Idol" is not the only homophobic show. Did anyone see "So You Think You Can Dance" last night when Nigel Lythgow said that same-sex dancing "alienated our audience" and that he preferred dancing be a place where "boys should be boys and girls should be girls?"

I'm surprised that no one has called him out.

Lythgow also has a history of attempting to make some of the more obviously queer competitors appear straight.
