hey steve,

Democrat policies are what got us in this mess. If you would look things up you would know that it was republicans that said there needed to be reforms upon freddie and fannie because they weren't sound and then democrat senators like chris dodd and barney frank spoke up and said it was sound. Wait a second double standard. Especially when two months ago barney frank said the same thing. can we say liar. Get it right gay marriage will not be legal upon either candidate. Remember all politicians lie. But its the politicians that lie the most. look it up obama/biden have lied more than McCain/Palin. It's a fact. Do you think raising business tax will create more jobs. We pay most corporations tax already dont you think that it will be one more thing on OUR table. Do you know that almost 40% of americans dont even pay federal income tax. Do you know that in the last 50 years it was a Republican President that had us through our best economic time. When actually millions of jobs were created. Do you maybe think that instead of giving people hand outs cause you know they will take them maybe make people go out and work. Feeling the fruits of your labor. If obama wins our lives will change. You say for the better but i say bad for the economy.

Hi Jennifer Vanasco,

I saw your comment about not getting "personal" in e-mails. As that is a little vague, it would be really helpful to me (and I'm sure other bloggers) if you prominently posted the blogging policy on the site.

I looked under the Terms of Use, Rules of Conduct, and it reads like somethng written by a very expensive media attorney writing for other media attorneys, rather than something in plain, straightforward language that is easy for everyone to understand.

Personally, I try to stick to commending or challenging the points of view raised by either authors or other bloggers, and may refer to the author or other bloggers by name when doing so. I try to avoid name calling or attacking an author or blogger personally, but do frequently challenge their expressed opinions or points of view. Is that in line with 365gay.com's blogging policy?

Thanks for clarifying.

I would also like to commend BudE for writing that a person needs to make a choice and vote for President in this election cycle when your vote counts - even if you do not like or always agree with the candidate who gets your vote.

BudE writes:
Personally, if I lived across the state line in Missouri (a swing state from which my spouse and I are only a few blocks away) then I might hold my nose and vote for Obama — considering the alternative.

I, JohnM, do think Obama will make a great President and lead on LGBT issues. Obama should, in his first term, pass ENDA, hate crimes and repeal DOMA, because it is the right thing to do and it will not cost the US treasury any $$$. It may even save the US treasury some funds if the Armed Forces no longer have to rehire and retrain talented military personnel that were booted out for just being themselves. If he does not lead on these issues, then he should not expect our vote in 2012. I am optimistic, however, that we will see his leadership and real progress in these 3 areas.

A new area of condern will be Obama's ability to pass legislation costing taxpayer dollars, at least until the George W created financial crisis is over. So I have concern that the repeal of DOMA may be delayed until the US financial picture improves. Repeal of DOMA should lead to federal benefits being extended to domestic partners and same gender spouses.

The LA Times just published an article where noted Republican conservatives are coming out in droves declaring McCain unfit for the Presidency, especially in light of his pick of Sarah Palin as his VP. See below for quotes attributed to George Will, a pulitizer prize winning conservative Republican journalist:

"Under the pressure of the financial crisis, one presidential candidate is behaving like a flustered rookie playing in a league too high," Will began his syndicated column, which is carried in more than 450 newspapers. "It is not Barack Obama."

The conservative elder accused McCain of "characteristically substituting vehemence for coherence" and of attacking his Democratic rival as a big spender, rather than mounting a philosophical challenge to the largest government bailout of business in American history.

Will mocked the Republican standard-bearer as a veritable Queen of Hearts (a la "Alice in Wonderland".

The Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist argued that such impulsiveness sows doubts about McCain's ability to apply "calm reflection and clear principles" to important decisions. He ended his broadside by all but declaring McCain unfit for the Oval Office.

The Republican party is the party of greed and corruption. Some of them actually believe that laissez-faire policies are good, and that the greed and corruption are just side effects. But most are just greedy and corrupt, and want the government to refrain from preventing or prosecuting the theft and corruption.

It is unfortunate, but I think there are actually some people in the world for whom money is more important than people/relationships/sex/home/etc. If the most important thing in your life is money, and you are cold hearted enough not to care about anything else, then of course you support the party that will let you take more money.

I pray for those people. They are choosing to be alone and afraid, instead of having fulfilling relationships.

But even for them, it has become obvious in recent years that the Republicans are not actually the party that creates wealth. Republican policies destroy wealth. Democratic policies create wealth. How this works may not be obvious, but it is very true.

Wealth is created when people do productive work -- building homes, making products, growing crops, etc. Shuffling paper around a bank doesn't create anything. Democratic policies encourage productive work, by rewarding workers (aka, middle class people). Republican policies discourage productive work by rewarding paper-shufflers who lay-off workers or shut down factories.

The most important thing in the world are Happiness, not Health or Wealth. Happiness comes from relationships with other people, not from money or things. Relationships that also create health and/or wealth are also good. But the happiness only comes when we value the relationship higher than those other things.

Even the people who value money over everything else are beginning to understand this. Policies that help the middle class and encourage productive work are good for the country, and more profitable in the long run. And, in the bargain, they also encourage personal relationships.

Much thanks, “weboy“, for exposing the hypocrisy of Barrack Obama. While I understand your support for the “lesser of two evils“, I'm still very glad that you also revealed Obama’s casual insensitivity towards the GLBT community and drew attention to his precariously tactless alter ego at your link.

http://nycweboy.typepad.com/my_weblog/2008/04/the-unambiguous.html

I completely understood your denunciation of him, and I also understand you tacit acceptance of him now -- considering the alternative. Too bad these are our only choices.

I’m happy that you have clarified your position on this political chameleon. I’d hate to see anyone else’s work or words misinterpreted, as mine often is, by blind disciples to this callous and manipulating politician. An informed choice is always preferable to unquestioning loyalty by any disenfranchised minority desperately looking for a savior who may just be a wolf in sheep’s clothes.

As history has proven, too many times, it is the devil we don’t know that is often more dangerous for us than the devil we know.

Bill Clinton come to mine on that one.

One of the obvious things happening here, and elsewhere on gay blogs is that republicans, posing as gays, are trying to split the gay vote. Just another dirty Karl Rove trick. Sure I understand why some may be more free market oriented then the dems, and this is what drives them, but that is still a terrible mistake to join with the repubs. You can't cure a nazi party from the inside.

Lets remember that one cannot get all they want in political situations. This is, as much as we might not like it, lesson #1 that I learned in the last few years as I got involved in politics.

You can have the republicans, who will do anything to win, so they can continue the financial rape of this country for the super wealthy. And if gay folks make a handy target / scapegoat to gain the support of the worst people in America, the right wing christian churches and the rigidly backwards Catholic church heirarchy, they will do it. (I have lots of (ex)catholic friends who simply call it the hypocrit church). I can also add that I am amazed that the orthodox jews, whose forebears shared the ovens of the holocaust with gays of germany are just as bad. Some of the ultra-orthodox in Israel even said that "gays were like bird flu", which I read as a call to genocide. And I, and my wife, are liberal Jewish, though I personally would join the UU church except for the marital discord it would create.

You have to know who your enemies are, and you do have to make compromises in life, even though I don't like it either. The problem is a generational problem, and the need to totally break the closet. As as more and more come out, and the average str8 American discovers that people they know and respect are gay, the walls will come tumbling down. And the merchants of hatred, whose religions they know in their deep dark heart are mostly BS, will be preaching to the dust in the pews and the dust of the departed.

And we will have accomplished another great social revolution for America.

I was a str8 repub who came to see the total hypocrisy of the republican party under the leadership of the most disastrous president we have had in over a hundred years. It was Baby Bush, nicht seig heil, mein fuhrer, who got me involved in the gay rights movement. And he made me a democrat. Besides the outrages of the war, & the talibanization of the republican party, we now face the collapse of our economy thanks to this sociopath and all who follow him. And another case in point, our congressional rep was a Vietnam war hero, middle of the road republican, an honest hardworking man who looked out for the good of the country. But in the last primary, the repub party brought in an absolutely extremist doctor, who wants to eliminate all government regulation, and funded a campaign that cost our good republican his job, come next January.

I've always wondered what made the log cabin repubs run. For gay folks, supporting a log cabin repub endorsee is apt to be like supporting a moderate nazi, no such thing.

The log cabin repubs should, if they haven't been castrated by the repubs, come out and totally repudiate Bush, McCain and his gang of religious neo-nazis. And It is interesting to see Palin getting 'dewitched' on TV. She, with her religious beleifs, seems to be the very leader of witchcraft. The only thing I wonder about this moose hunter is whether she is a top, or a bottom. :-)
