The LGBTQ community's hope is misplaced in the Dems. They throw us under the bus every time. Obama traveled through the South with known Anti-gay clegy and believes that we are second class citizens - entitled only to a civil union (albeit a strong one - his words). The only party which fully and 100% consistently has supported the LGBTQ community is the Green Party. The Dems gave us DOMA, Don't ask Don't Tell. They are NOT my party.

The GLBT community has been under siege by Republicans and the Courts they have appointed beginning with the horrors of the Reagan administration. Yet, a small and vocal gay minority (enshrined in the Log Cabin Club) continues to make headlines by presenting their self-loathing group at the feet of Republican bigots. Have they learned nothing from the past eight years? It's not just the president/vice president. It's more important that born-again Christians have virtually taken over Justice, Education, HHS, the Courts, and most other government agencies.

If you vote for McCain/Palin you are voting for candidates actively supported by religious fundamentalists who want to eliminate domestic partnership rights, education rights, survivorship rights, abortion rights, marriage parity and a host of others that singificantly impact our lives.

It doesn't matter if you are enamored with Obama. The only means of at least diminishing the hold of right-wing religious groups (who want to deny you all rights) is to vote AGAINST Republican candidates.

I live in California and married in June. My marriage will be outlawed if Republicans prevail. Your marriage will never take place period if you elect McCain and Palin. McCain may not be the most homophobic member of the Senate, but he's not our constant friend either, and Palin, a creationist born-again bimbo will try to eliminate the tiny bit of power we have won over the past 30 years.

The Log Cabin Club is truly the most disgraceful "Uncle Tom" group in history--they are actively working against our very survival. Please vote against the Republican/Born-Again machine.

Trace: Obama voted for and helped pass protection for gay and lesbians against workplace discrimination and hate crime legislation in Illinois, as well as supporting ENDA in the Senate, voting to increase HIV funding, voted against anti-gay-marriage amendments, etc. So, in fact, yes, he has been supportive of gay rights in deeds, not just words.

As for comparisons to South Africa, Spain, Mexico, etc.

Mexico has *civil unions* in Mexico City and Coahuila - they are not ahead of us.
South Africa has gay marriage true, but a worse situation overall. They only have gay marriage because of high profile LGBT allies in the African National Congress when the SA constitution was drawn up. If the USA was drawing up a new Constitution and had high profile allies involved on the par of Mandela and Tutu in SA (I fail to come up with such national heroes in today's politics), then maybe SA's law would be relevant to our tactics in the US.

In fact, one has to look at HOW that progress was achieved in those countries to make the case that it's relevant to this election and whether one should vote for Obama. Given a Supreme Court that would be hostile to recognizing foreign gay marriages, it's unlikely we'll be following Israel's lead (their court ruled in our favor). It's especially unlikely that we will ever follow their lead if we elect McCain and he appoints more retrograde conservatives to the court.

So, your argument is basically, empty, hollow, without basis. I wouldn't be surprised if you were nothing more than a Republican operative.

Chris: I'm not saying vote for McCain. I'm not saying don't vote for Obama. I'm saying stop being a naive shill for either candidate.

If you can't figure that out, I'm sorry, but you are an idiot and that's all there is to it.

Jonathan: As much as you might like to blame 'the Republicans' for the problems you're identifying, it's not that simple. If you think that the Republican party is a homogenous group of people who always agree, do not have different cliques and (as a party) are responsible for those problems, you don't understand politics at all.

'The Democrats' were not responsible for getting us into Vietnam; a particular administration made that fatal error. You cannot blame nor credit the party itself for the actions (either good or bad) of its members. Doing so just indicates flagrant ignorance of politics.

Hate Bush all you want. Go ahead, I'd encourage it; I don't like him either. But to say that Republicans as a group are responsible for the problems caused by Bush's administration is just silly.

This is America, where individualism is king and politicians are more important than political parties. Examine the people you vote for; it'll give you far more accurate data about them than the letter next to their names.

Are we expecting to be in a perpetual state of war?

Are we expecting to be forever entangled in fights we never should have been in?

Are we supposed to forget a Republican administration lied to get us in this war?

Are we supposed to forget Bin Laden, the one we should have been after, got away because blood lust took a Republican adminstrations' eye off the target?

Are we suppose to forget that this is the party that wants religious freedom for themselves and no one else?

Are we supposed to forget that this party wants to take a woman's choice but then tell her to do the rest on her own and condemn her for getting pregnant in the first place?

Am I supposed to forget that the current leader of this party supported a constitutional amendment upholding 2nd class citizenship and bigotry? A stance which this group are still embracing.

That's what I've gotten out of the Republican convention.

Obama is not perfect. No candidate will ever be but he's a step in the right direction.

Vote for McCain/Palin and you deserve to remain 2nd class citizens

No Chris S., you will not respond as you do not know anything but the Democratic Talking Points.

You have not pointed out how your cherished Democratic Party has done anything but pander to the gay community. I'm waiting for your examples.

As for lashing out at Rodney, I would look at my own glass house before tossing out such ill conceived comments.

Kari - I really would say to someone that is actually supportive of the ONLY patry that supports gay rites that they ar sounding like "an idiot". Especially considering the lack of substance in your own. Trace - you clearly don't know enough about the things you talk about for me to even bother responding to your posts. Rodney - the whole thing of referencing "Obama Hussein" is merely childish but accurately reflects the intelligence of your post.

You are a unaware if:
-You are voting for McCain or abstaining from voting for Obama

We all loose if McCain wins! How?
- At least 20 more years of Marriage inequality!

Why do we ALL loose?
- McCain will be replacing at least 2 freaken Supreme Court Judges with VERY anti-gay Judges!!! Duh... That's what he keeps telling radical right wing Christians like my parents!

So you say: So what!

Wake up and smell the coffee Gaymerica! The Supreme Court will be the ONLY realistic way we will get marriage!

John: Stop being a naive shill. It just makes you look like an idiot.

Has it ever occurred to you that maybe you need to think for yourself instead of buying into the Obama media hype and advertising, tooting their slogans and propoganda?

I'm not saying vote for McCain. I'm saying be reserved about any politician, including Obama. The reality that he probably won't deliver anything meaningful (besides higher taxes and social programs that hurt the US in general) and his promises to us will go unfulfilled.

But of course, when he runs for re-election in 2012, I bet you'll vote for him then, too. Why? Because he's a democrat, and democrats must be good for us, even if they take no actions to benefit us.

Rick, Oversimplification?

I can tell you that McCain stood on the Senate floor and told his party members that a constitutional amendment against gay marriage was against the Republican principals. I can tell you that Governor Palin's first veto was to prevent the state taking health care away from gay partners. I can tell you Obama has tossed out about 39 words towards the gay community in his acceptance speech and told us that Marriage is between man and a woman.

It's becoming ever more clear that the Democrats are going to be conceding this election. It's very unfortunate as they should have been able to call this election in and win overwhelmingly.

I would guess that it's not too early to be thinking about 2012. My hope would be for the Libertarians to gain strength and we could elect someone that truly believed in equality and less government. If that happens, it's anyone's guess. We do know that it's a sad situation that the person on either ticket that has the most experience running ANYTHING is a small town mayor?!?!?! (God Save Us All.)

But as Rick will tell us, Hope Springs Eternal.
