Wis. Democrats elect gay advocate as nation’s youngest chair

(Green Bay, Wisc.) Wisconsin’s Democratic Party says it now has the nation’s youngest state chairman in either party.
Wisconsin Democrats elected Mike Tate as their new chairman Saturday at their convention in Green Bay. He just turned 30 in March.Tate has been involved in state Democratic politics for more than a decade.
He has worked for several politicians and led the Fair Wisconsin campaign in 2006 that attempted to defeat a constitutional ban on gay marriage.
Tate is straight, but he has said, “I’ve always felt that this is a state where everyone gets a fair shake. This is too important to not become involved. If you’d told me 2 years ago that this is what I’d be doing, I wouldn’t have believed you, but I believe that it’s the civil rights fight of my generation.”

See everyone? A young, 30 year-old straight male with his head and heart in the right place. Let’s stop disrespecting and ridiculing straight people as a whole group. Straights come in all sizes and beliefs, and obviously just like not all gay people are clones thinking, speaking, dressing, grooming and acting alike, the same is true of straights too.
This guy is clearly a nice guy and is on our side. Let’s treat him like we want to be treated. That is like a human being. He is not a “breeder”. He is not a “Jesse Helms”. He is not a “Fred Phelps”. He is a decent human being who wants to do the right thing. Get it, every one?
This is great news. With Tate’s leadership perhaps the Dems can restore Wisconsin to its former status as a progressive-minded state and repeal that asinine marriage-ban. I hope that this is a sign that the pendulum has swung from the bitter, hate-mongering religious right-wing-nuts to a more balanced political climate in Wisconsin and the US.
Good on him!
