Why will you march?
As you may know, Logo is going dark on Sun., Oct. 11 to draw attention to the National Equality March. The channel is planning on running a series of quotes from people explaining why they are marching, or talking about why the march is important and what they hope comes from it.
Logo is inviting 365gay readers to chime in.Here’s the request from Logo:
During the Equality March, Logo will be ‘dark’ as a symbol of solidarity …but this is also an opportunity to let viewers know why the march is so important. In a ticker, we may highlight issues of inequality across the country (eg. Florida adoption laws), but we also want to make the event feel human, personal & real.
This is where you come in. Tell us, in a sentence, why you think the march is important and we may include your message on-air as well.
Serious examples:
I’m marching so my partner and I can adopt our foster children.
I’m marching because marriage is a civil right.
Fun examples:
I’m marching so I can hold hands when I go shopping with my girlfriend.
I’m marching because socially aware guys are hot!
Looking forward to your response!
What do you think, readers? Post your response below, or email it to me at jennifer.vanasco [at] mtvstaff ][dot] com

My husband and I will not be marching because our son will be only a few days old on October 11th. We owe a debt of gratitude to everyone who has taken and who continues to take a stand for equality. Without you, our family would not be possible. March On!!!
I’m marching to tell the current administration not to play russian roulette with our rights. Their current defense of DOMA acknowledges that DOMA is discriminatory, and says that discrimination is necessary against activities like incest and pedophilia and gay marriage. This is a dangerous approach that if successful may roll back protections in all areas, not just marriage. To the White House I say that my marriage is just as good as theirs….
Wouldn’t it be better for LOGO to cover the event rather than going dark? Mainstream news organizations will probably devote all of 2 minutes to the march if we’re lucky.
LOGO has dropped the ball, yet again. I guess I’ll tune into Current TV, they might cover it.
I am marching because I DESERVE to be your equal.

I am marching to protect access to my grandchildren. They are my partners daughters kids and if something happens to him I do not want to be left out. If we were married I would have a legal claim to visit from time to time.
p.s. This does not have to be an expensive trip. I found space with a kind gentleman using http://www.couchsurfing.org/
There are many bus/van/carpools forming. the http://www.equalityacrossamerica.org/ web site has a ton of information to make this a very inexpensive trip.
I wish we could afford to go but alas, in this economy it’s just not possible. Especially with my son in college right now. I will try to do something local in Palm Springs, but I haven’t heard of anything local yet.
I’m marching because equal treatment under the law applies to every citizen and to every law including marriage, adoption and honorable service in the military.
I’m marching so I can walk hand in hand with a girl, not even a girlfriend, and not have gay slurs yelled at us.
I am marching to make a difference, to show that this movement is important.
We are marching because nobody’s gay marriage will affect your straight divorce.
I’m marching because I’m sick of being a second class citizen, in the “Free” United States.
Wish I lived closer and wasn’t a broke college student. If I were within a thousand miles of there I’d go.
We just got married July 24 in CT but we’ve been together almost 16 years. I am ecstatic. I want to march with my husband and let the whole world know. Take that, Obama!
I cannot be in Washington to march, but I can and will do some act in solidarity that weekend for equality in all 50 states, all 10 Canadian provinces (plus the three territories) and for LGBT people around the world.
Why will I do this? I will do this for LGBT people in the United States being kicked out of the military and denied recognition of marriage equality. I will do this for LGBT people everywhere being kicked out of jobs and homes, subject to assault, and denied protection in schools from homophobic bullying.
NOT EVERYONE CAN BE IN WASHINGTON ON OCTOBER 10TH & 11TH, BUT E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E CAN DO SOME ACTION ON THAT WEEKEND TO DEFEND OUR RIGHT TO EQUALITY EVERYWHERE!
My partner and I have been together 15 years and we’re tired of waiting for equal protection of our relationship. If we don’t get DOMA repealed before the elections next year it’ll be another decade before we can marry.
Even more importantly, it’s time that the LGBT community stands up and starts calling our struggle what it is: THE civil rights movement of our time.
We’re marching because we’re Fed Up with the heterosexual-superiority-complex that rules our homeland USA!!!
After 33 years together in Love at first sight, and being married in Canada in 2003, it’s time to up our demand that we get our full birthright as Americans and taxpayers! To do otherwise we’d feel unpatriotic and unAmerican! These Queers don’t run, we march!
