White House to host LGBT reception for pride month
06.25.2009 3:15pm EDT
(Washington) The White House will be hosting a reception for LGBT people Monday to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, Pink News reports.
“Next Monday’s event is a chance for the White House to recognize the accomplishments of LGBT Americans,” White House spokesman Shin Inouye said. “Invited guests include families, volunteers and activists, and community leaders.”The event will be also marked as a part of Pride month.

I’m tired of symbolic gestures (Stonewall recognition event) and empty promises (”we’ll work harder,” and “it’ll get done in this administration”) framed in reassuring words.
Give us something REAL, Mr. Obama. Give us something REAL before I or my spouse of 30 years die.
Let us be REAL in the eyes of the federal government: we’re not asking for that much.
Let us file joint income taxes and stop paying extra taxes on employer-provided insurance for our legal spouses. Let us cover our spouses under our federal insurance plans. Let us, when we need to, collect survivor’s benefits.
Let us legally and openly as a family BUY A FAMILY PASS to a Federal Freakin’ Park.
Stop patting us on the heads with dumb-show demonstrations like this Stonewall event. It just doesn’t cut it, Mr. Obama, and you know it.
This is why I stopped donating to HRC. Waste of time, energy, and resources. The HRC: Fighting for Photo Ops.
I want to see a list of all attendees. I will discontinue any contribution to any BLBT organization that sends a representative.
Barney “Ooops There’s
Bordello in my Basement” Frank is toast.
His judgment in regulating Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is as bad as his judgment in shacking up with Stephen Gobie.
Oh???
Where’s my invitation? Or does this only include Joe Solomeese from HRC?
I am loosing hope fast. I know Obama has as lot of S@#%T going on but if he can’t treat his own people right, how is he going to be the leader??? Let alone trying to positively influence the world? People in the country that he is running deserves more than that.
I listened to a dscussion on NPR in the Bay Area today. A 71 year old straight woman called in. She was mad. She said “It only took Truman one Executive Order and the military was desegregated. He did not consult his Chiefs. He knew he was in charge, and it was the right thing to do.” It wasn’t easy after that, but Truman signed that Order. Where is our Chief Executive? We have been talking for over 20 years. That’s an entire generation. Enough already. Out of the closets and into the military, where we are already serving! My partner is Navy vet, and she is chronically ill and will be terminally ill. I cannot sign her into the VA cemetery. Our kids will have to. They will not give me the flag. We aren’t even under the bus. We can’t get into the damn cemetery!!!
Do you think Obama knows the LGBT’s are being INVITED to the reception and are not there to CATER the reception?
OK everybody, don’t you think he has had a rather large pile of crap on his plate already? Being retired MILITARY and Gay, I am just as hopeful as the next guy that this will all change and soon. I would sure like to have my partner on my health care than spend all the money monthly to have him covered by paying all that money. But I do think that the recession, Iran, the wars, North Korea, the national health policy overhaul, etc, etc, etc are ALL rather important also. So lets give the man a chance. It took decades to get it so screwed up. It can not be fixed in months. Besides which, the military does not change quickly, I know, I’ve been there. If he takes slow and deliberate steps, it might actually get fixed once and for all!
There ought to be protesters, reporters and cameras present to jeer and record the attendance of any scumbag low enough to cross Obama’s threshold. In 1993, when Bill Clinton canceled a personal appearance at the March on Washington, Robin Tyler tore up his written statement, announcing that it was from “somebody who shouldn’t matter.”
Ditto for Obama.
I just sent this via The White House Contact Us location on their website-RE: (Washington) The White House will be hosting a reception for LGBT people Monday to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, Pink News reports.

My comments: A reception is window dressing– it would be very possible for this president to do away with DADT and not hurt his more preferred initiatives & goals. All of a sudden, what does, apparently, hurt his more preferred initiatives & goals, is the loss of support from the GLTB community & the money that this support has provided to the Democratic Party. Again, his reception, window dressing. With this administration, our community is long past the value of this kind of token move/bone. Didn’t he also parade around the acquisition of the first family’s first dog(?)- window dressing/ public relation niceties- big deal. “Blue” in a blue state.
I am a locally elected Deputy Mayor (& Democrat) in a small southern N.J. borough in a largely republican controlled County- Cape May. I wish that I could say that your visit to N.J. this election cycle would help Governor Corzine with his re-election, who I do support. Unfortunately, I’m not so sure. He, at least, has the courage to speak out about supporting government recognized marraige equality, even when in a tough election campaign. YES WE CAN is more like NO WE WON’T
Note to the queer elite invitees – isn’t your life just a little too busy and filled with other pressing things to do?
It would be nice if you didn’t go and become photo props and pawns.
If you must indulge your egos, here are some questions to ask our Segregationist and Chief:
-Please meet my Civil Unionized godless life partner Muffy – so how is your roommate Michelle?
-While picking out the melba toasts in your chex mix point to the mixture and ask him directly, “Is God in the mix?”
-How does it feel to have Proposition 8 as your personal legacy?
-Our lives feels so purposeless – could you set up a lunch with Rick Warren for us?
-So, uh, your dad was black, and uh, your mom was white and uh, their marriage was illegal at one point in time – and uh, howz that crab?
I just had the mental image of Obama delivering a speech or another anorexic “proclamation” and instead of applause hearing only the sound of chirping crickets from the rows of empty seats.
You’ve LOST US dude, and it’s gonna take some actual WORK towards recognizing us as equal American citizens to get us back!

What kind of self-loathing “uncle tom gay equivalent” would even accept that invitation?! Sounds dreadful. To have to sit there and pretend to feel an honored guest of someone who will:
1. fire you from the military becuase you’re gay
2. equated your relationship with incest
3. declared that he has a clear governmental interest in denying you equality
4. lied to you repeatedly
5. thinks of themself as a fierce advocate of your interests even though he declined numerous opportunities to appoint gays and lesbians to high ranking posts within his government
6. Is generally a smarmy, self interested, deceptive opportunist and a SMOKER to boot.
