Vatican: pope to meet Anglican chief
10.30.2009 5:00pm EDT
(Vatcican City) The Vatican says Pope Benedict XVI will meet with the Archbishop of Canterbury next month in the leaders’ first encounter since the Catholic church moved to make it easier for disenchanted Anglicans to convert to Catholicism.
Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, said in a telephone interview Friday evening that Archbishop Rowan Williams was already due to visit Rome for ceremonies at a pontifical university to honor a late cardinal who worked for Christian unity.Taking advantage of the archbishop’s presence in Rome, Benedict will receive Williams on Nov. 21 at the Vatican.
The Vatican’s recent move to ease Anglican conversions came as some Anglicans are upset by their church’s allowing openly gay clergy and blessing same-sex unions.

++ Rowan Cantuar will kiss the pope’s dessicated derriere; they’ll issue an nonsensical feel-good joint press release saying nothing of substance; some Anglicans will swim the Tiber; they’ll get booted out when Rome discovers they’re no more obedient to the Roman bishops than they were the Anglican. They’re the descendants of the Puritans / Roundheads, who took on the Church of England AND the Reformed Church of Holland, and got booted out of BOTH countries. Unfortunately, we ended up with ‘em.They don’t like ANYBODY very much
Life will go on. Progressives converting to Anglicanism will MORE than make up for the departure of the homo-bigots.
Anybody who doubts the Church is getting down to business these days isn’t looking at the red…
They’re both Hemorrhaging and this alliance helps each other out. Allying with the more conservative Catholic church allows the Episcopal to save face for the gays they’re letting through, and the Catholics get to look like they might back off on the whole marriage and sex scandal that’s making them, well… lets just say it helps both of them.
Who gives a crap what the self-hating swishy pope does?
Ooops. Was that rude? Is it rude to deny the truth of human sexuality and the truth of pervasive homosexuality in your clerical ranks while playing with the ermine robes in the world’s biggest closet?
Is it rude to drive young catholics into confusion and denial about their sexuality and stand by while they become disaffected and suicidal? Is it rude to try to force an entire country to live by the bishops’ twisted ideas of how good it is to repress your natural sexuality and to repress the civil rights of anyone who refuses to go along with them?
Showing any respect to such an institution is stupid beyond belief. That means you, Matthew Simonds. Oops, I did it again.
Signed gay, former catholic.
it is not a business meeting, and to suggest so is quite rude.
Robert…sharp, man!
Now would anyone be surprised if they retitled this article: CEO of Roman Catholic Church to meet with Anglican CEO to trade disgruntled customers. It’s basically a business deal, as far as I’m concerned.
