Vatican investigates US convents ’soft’ on gays

(Vatican City) The Vatican has launched a doctrinal investigation into the leadership of Catholic sisters in the United States, reportedly because they have not sufficiently promoted the Vatican line on homosexuality and other issues.
The Leadership Conference of Women Religious, an association that gathers the leaders of most of the country’s women’s congregations, said it was informed of the “doctrinal assessment” in a letter from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Vatican’s orthodoxy watchdog. The doctrinal investigation is separate from another Vatican-ordered study looking into the quality of the life in more than 400 U.S. women’s religious institutes. That study was launched as the church grapples with the dramatic decline in the number of American nuns and sisters over the past several decades.
In a statement, the Leadership Conference said the new doctrinal study would look into its activities and initiatives, but it provided no details.
Calls to the Vatican spokesman were not returned late Wednesday. A spokeswoman of the conference, Sister Annmarie Sanders, declined to comment beyond the statement.
The National Catholic Reporter, an independent newspaper, said the Vatican ordered up the probe because the sisters had not addressed problems raised by the Vatican in 2001 about their promotion of church teaching on homosexuality, salvation and the priesthood, which the Vatican says is reserved for men.
The newspaper cited a letter from the head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Cardinal Joseph Levada, to the conference saying the Vatican had concluded that the problems raised in 2001 remain based on the “tenor and the doctrinal content” of speeches given at the conference’s annual meetings.
The conference said it was confident going into the investigation, saying it believed it had been faithful to its mission of serving leaders of women’s orders “as they seek to further the mission of Christ in today’s world.”
The conference says it has more than 1,500 members, who represent about 95 percent of the 59,000 women religious in the United States.

Misogynist pigs, but they always have been starting with the first ‘pope’ Paul. He hated women and men!
Does the latest Vatican Inquisition also include the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and all Jesuits while they are at it?
ok where’s that meteor..so it can hit the Vatican HEAD ON! Ahh what a day it would be…the world could celebrate!
Oh, boy! It’s witch-hunt timmmmmme! Fun!
As a former nun (now married lesbian) I can say there are some convents that support the views of the hierarchy and others that count (celibate) lesbians amongst their members and are more liberal. The cardinal I knew was well aware of both kinds although he disliked the liberals. Both kinds will survive, IMHO, although the liberals will be more hidden with the current misguided and misogynistic Pope in power.
I was talking with a catholic woman today who supports gay equality. She said she wonders when they will hold up their hands when she comes to church.
And then she will go to the Episcopal church, which in many ways is like a Catholic church of Grace, not of terrorism and guilt.
Everyone should do something like this. Do you remember Dobson saying “give me a child at 7, and I’ll make him a Christian for life? Well, at about 7 years old, the guy teaching power-mongering, hatred, etc in the Popes homeland had the intitials AH.
And of course the current pope’s previous job was head of the churches Inquisition, whatever they call it now.
A tiger never changes their stripes. Eventually they will die out. The other solution is to scream for the removal of all the gay priests etc. No priests, no church. The only problem is that a lot of these priests are good, progressive people, driven into a “shut your mouth” closet by the fear of losing their lifes work.
Yuk is all I can say for the hierarchy, which also kept hidden for decades their perversion problem. Probably because of how high up it reaches into the stone heads and hearts of the power structure.
“GET THEE TO A NUNNERY”
Which if anybody who knows their history was actually a church sanctioned BROTHEL. A house of ilrepute. I dare them to challenge me on that little bit of history.
The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith was once called the Congregation for Universal Inquisition.

“Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith”?? Sounds a lot like the Saudi Arabian regligious police— some title like “police for the promotion of virtue and elimination of vice” or some such title. That Islamic group goes around abusing women and forcing young girls back into burning buildings to die because they ran out of the burning building without head scarves. Astonishing what brutes and thugs can get away with in the name of religion! Has the Vatican taken note?????
The vatican can burn as far as I’m concerned.. complete with the staff that works/lives in it!
Now that they can’t burn witches like me the Vatican bully boys and hit men are targeting the sisters. I’d be all worked up about this but I hate nuns, personally.
Nuns!? Being soft on gays?! Maybe because nuns are treated like shit by the Catholic ALL MALE power structure. The two Marys were the ones Jesus valued the most and the only ones who DIDN’T desert him. Get over your clearly homosexual adoration of Peter the Prick.
Hmmm! Clearly the sisters are more consistent with the true Gospel value of love than the Vatican.
The Catholic Church has become more like it was in the 1930s and 40s. The Gestapo! They are a truly pathetic lot. Only the ignorant still give money to them. Any good Catholic prays at home and doesn’t give these hypocritical bastards a dime!
Fine…let them eat themselves. They’re just a bunch of trouble-makers biding their time quietly until they can, somehow someway, regain their power.
I never met a Catholic Priest who didn’t miss the old Inquisition days. Things were so much simpler then. Now-a-days lots of heathens are so Uppity that it’s tough being a vessel of God and working his wonders.
