The NY/CA Gay Marriage debate is about economics. IF NY legalizes Gay marriage First, Gay Californians will sell their homes and relocate, driving down California’s revenue during a state budget crisis. If California approves Gay Marriage First, Gay New Yorkers will relocate to LA/San Francisco. NY would loose Revenue. And we all new know, whereever the gays go the property values go through the roof.

For those of you that hate to hear it, I have said this a thousand times and I will say it a thousand more times. As long as this so called Gay marriage bill stays the same with the same name Gay marriage bill it will never pass. It cannot pass as it is written because they are not going to vote for something that could possibly come back to haunt these Senators when they have to run for re-election and answer to the constituents about why they voted for the Gay marriage bill. All it takes is all sides including our side (the Gay side) to agree to a change in the term Gay marriage and it will pass. The whole issue is that New Yorkers are against Gay marriages but the fact is they are not against us having the very same rights under the laws equal to theirs just the terminology. period. I do not care what study Van Cappele is handing everyone, the fact is that New Yorkers do not like the term Gay marriage. It implicates that something that is very hard to change in their minds. So why must we shove this term down their throats when we could all be happy and have gay marriage passed but simply under another name.

Change the name get the bill passed. Keep the name and you have nothing but chaos all because of our cause. I do not understand why it is so important to have the word gay kept in the language. Let them call it anything they want just give us the rights and end this. This Gay marriage is killing careers and dividing lawmakers up and down NY and the US. It is sickening to see that in the year 2009 we are still fighting for our rights when all people are saying is please just change the name and respect our belief and we will respect your belief. It is only a name folks who cares what you call it we want the same rights that is all.

Interestingly, The Republican Heir Apparent Dean Skelos has announced that, unlike his democratic mjority predecessor, he WILL bring the bill to a vote before the end of this legislative session.

If the Republican party in new york manages to take this political high-ground, and the bill does pass, it will mean a whole new political landscape for LGBT issues across America, with Republicans and Democrats vying for who gets to be the progressive “party of inclusion.”
