Vanasco: Mike Rogers outs conservative lt. gov.

Super-activist Mike Rogers reports that South Carolina Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer has sex with men  – despite his conservative, pro-Christian stance.

Why does a lt. governor matter? Because he will replace Gov. Mark Sanford if the governor resigns or is impeached (very possible, since the governor is currently dealing with a Latin American sex scandal of his own).

Bauer has no voting record for or against gay issues – but then again, few gay bills make it to South Carolina’s floor (the last one, on hate crimes, died in committee when Bauer was in the state senate).

In the comments section to his post, Rogers says:

“He has spoken about marriage, and in a letter endorsing Huckabee cited the protection of “traditional marriage” as one of the reasons to elect Huckabee.”

Here’s a story about outing and South Carolina’s gay closet issue in the Columbia Free Times.

    • “Bauer has no voting record for or against gay issues…” Just playing ‘devil’s advocate here, but — maybe he is a gay ’stealth-candidate.’ Certainly, he couldn’t get to where he is in SC by being openly gay. Obama supports ‘traditional marriage’ yet much of the LGBT community supported his candidacy. Sounds to me like Bauer doesn’t have much of a record either way. Perhaps it it too early to demonize him…???”

    • PLEASE stop referring to every right-winger clinging to a cross as a “Christian,” as though to be PRO-lgbt equality, one must be somehow ANTI-Christian. I happen to be Christian–AND gay! And I resent this continual implied buy-in to the bad-guys definition. It’s lazy journalism–like using the term “gay rights” or “gay marriage” which incorrectly imply some “special” rights or type of marriage that heterosexuals have no access to–and just helps to further erroneous perceptions and prejudice.

    • I am a liberal gay male Christian who hopes to be partnered to a another man one day.

Being Christian doesn’t necessarily mean straight, conservative, with wife and kids.

    • Go, Roger! Every one of these closeted liars needs to be outed. I grew up in SC and knew far too many guys like Bauer.

    • I should probably have said, “pro-Evangelical” here. He supported special SC license plates that say “I believe” on them….

    • A second thought: Doesn’t ‘outing’ Bauer diminish the chances of the Governor being impeached and removed? Is that not likely to prevent conservative pols from removing a lying, cheating adulterer to prevent the ascendance of a queer homosex-scuhal?

    • @ Chris Sullivan–Bad, Chris! No donut!

For those who take offense at use of the term “Christian” in this context: in case you haven’t had the joy of experience, Southern conservatives (ESPECIALLY the GOP) are almost always describing THEMSELVES as “Christian.” No, they don’t have a damn thing to do with the teachings of Christ. As a native Southerner (who still has such an aversion to this crap that no way in hell do I wanna live south of I 80), I can tell you this is their self-identification. It is the self-designated “conservative Christian” faction which has hijacked the word “Christian.” It has nothing to do with any gays promoting hatred of religion; it’s responding to the self-identity so relentlessly pushed by these wingnuts. Stop worrying about what you might perceive as a gay misstep and start taking your faith back from these petty, greedy people. Be “Christian warriors” by acting as the Christian Right does not–act with compassion and humility. Clearly there’s not much of that in the South Carolina GOP. Take your religion back to its truth, and please don’t blame gays for damage gays didn’t cause.

    • Rick Watts: nope. Christian gay hater, I call you. you are the worst kind, playing right into your hate-handlers. Keep resenting, but if you keep giving money and being brainwashed into funding the hate machine, i’m going to call you out. Christianity is a hate machine, it was from the very beginning.

Chris Sullivan: thanks for the voice of reason.

Drewski: I’m from the South too. They love to hate everyone and that is why they run to christianity..it feels comfortable. However, the whole compassion and humility line is ridiculous. Jesus Christ never lived, there is no historical record, except faked inscriptions on a few sarcophogi (however you spell that!). Christianity was founded with very sinister purposes. We know that by looking at its history of being formed for the sole reason of consolidating the power vacuum left by the Roman Emporer’s ridiculous behavior.

This idea of Christ’s humility and compassion were written into the rulebook of the cult to attract people to the message so they could be brainwashed into the “christian army” that conquered the world and expanded the holy see’s real estate holdings.

Basically it is a business, not unlike the mob, that uses people’s fear of dying and rotting in the ground (which we will all do).

Regurgitating the loooove and fuzziness of christ’s teachings is just doing their bidding. Look under the hood and you’ll see the reality, a disgusting cult that grows by preying on the fear in innocent minds.

Education and rational analysis are the tools we have to fight it. Furthering the lies about humility only shows you’ve been duped.

it is the most evil cult ever seen on this planet. Most were rather campy, with the priestesses really just prostitutes and the priests getting to dress up like jaguars. When this cult took over the biggest power center in the world, we saw the combination of whacky beliefs and incredible power, and to this day we have seemingly educated people falling for it.

    • “He has spoken about marriage…” What did he say? “in a letter endorsing Huckabee cited the protection of “traditional marriage” as one of the reasons to elect Huckabee.” I want to see the letter. Rogers has offered no proof that Bauer is anti-gay and implies guilt by association.
