Vanasco: DC votes to recognize gay marriages in other states

The Washington Post is reporting that the DC Council voted 13-0 to recognize gay marriages perfomed in other states.

But council member and former mayor Marion Barry has asked for a re-vote – telling them he didn’t realize what he was voting on.

If Congress doesn’t intervene, the DC Council may take up equal marriage legislation later this year.

Stay tuned for a full story soon….

    • Marion Barry must be very stupid if he didn’t know what he was voting on. Since the vote was 13-0 how does revoting-with him voting no-going to change anything?

    • How can anyone not know what he or she had voted on as a DC city council member?? It’s their job to know everything before they vote on something.
Barry inspite of his past long history of supporting DC gay bars and other gay establishments long ago when they were wanted gone and his support of the DC gay community, he is not supporting the right for some in the gay commuity to be able to make one of the most personal and most intimate decisions in their lives, the right to get married.
He has been in politics a long time, battled cocaine addiction, etc and maybe he is just getting plain worn out by political life and should consider this to be his last term for the good of the city. He is now being an obstacle to the personal lives and well-being of many in the DC community who need just as much as anybody else to ensure that their loved ones and themselves are able to take care of each other in serious times of a medical and legal nature same as any straight couple are legally enabled the instant they get the marriage license. Barry is being an obstacle to these very personal needs and decisions and his usefulness to the city and its citizenry is thus diminishing and thererfore time for him to step aside for the good of all has arrived

    • Maybe he had just taken a big hit on the ol’ glass dick right before the vote? Or maybe he got distracted by some whores?

    • WTF?? Re-vote?? You wanna know Marion Barry’s game? Bluntly put, he’s positioning himself as the ghetto Everyman. He’s looking to use DC’s large pool of stunningly-poor blacks for his own advantage, playing their numbers against a largely-white gay establishment. It’s the same thing pastors and elected officials do in other majority-black cities. You notice that DC schools are still appallingly bad–you’d think that maybe a black elected official, having seen firsthand how bad it is, would push for more support from Congress, but no, Marion Barry was too busy contributing to crime in Anacostia and Fort Lincoln by supporting the dopeman. Never mind the schools, the overall third-world conditions of a huge part of DC–Marion Barry is another one who’s there to use other people (poor blacks with few life options) for his own interests, and it’s a manifestation of opportunism and racism that goes beyond any white politician’s most malicious efforts.
