I do wonder if religion is a choice. I grew up going to a preschool located in a Church, even took part in some biblical plays, even went to Church a few times. Now that I'm grown up, I'll respect a person's belief even if I think it's completely deluded or simply being used to further agendas.

Then again, maybe it's just because I'm gay and was raised to think 'gay is bad' and had enough brains to realize that I should start thinking independently. Perhaps that's not the case for people like the lady who runs Jesus Camp.

@Will Bowden

I guess religion is not a choice, when you are force fed all of the stupid beliefs from your family.

Being gay, (how many times do we have to say this, isn't a choice. Nobody force fed me this, to be gay. My family force fed me to be a "Christian". If this is a choice, when did you choose to be straight? Why would anyone in their right mind choose to be hated, beaten up, murdered, kicked out or be homeless? If I had the choice to be accepted by my family, of course I would choose to be just like everyone else on this planet. I didn't choose to be GAY! If you had the choice to be gay or straight, please give me an example for each choice. What are the benefits for each choice? What are the negatives for each choice? Please explain, so I can find out why I "chose to be gay?"

I think Gov Gary Herbert should get in touch with reality! We are not asking for special rights, just equal rights! For him to say “We don’t have to have a rule for everybody to do the right thing. We ought to just do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do and we don’t have to have a law that punishes us if we don’t,” is ridiculous!
Why is it that we need laws for other things than? If we go by what he says, we should do away with laws all together! How stupid does that sound?
We need laws and rules because humans don't always do the right thing. Obviously he does not understand the concept and is boviously prejudice! I bet there is a law that we are not allowed to threaten Governors. Why is that OK? Think about it, I bet he would defend that!!!

I WANT special rights.

 I want the special right to pursue happiness.
 I want the special right to live and love as I was born to do so.
 I want the special right to share the SAME rights as my fellow citizens.

Let's start by repealing laws against theft, rape and murder and just rely upon people to "do the right thing." The beauty of it is that they can save a truckload of money on prisons, because he says that you don't even have to punish people when they don't do the right thing.

I love his "logic."

The people that the distinguished Gov. of Utah label as "blue-eyed blondes...or people who are losing their hair a little bit" ALREADY HAVE civil rights!!!!
The only minority in this country that DOES NOT have their civil rights is the LGBT community. What kind of a moron is this guy anyway?? He claims we should all just do the right thing because it's the "right thing to do" -- therefore we don't need laws to enforce our civil rights!!??!! Does he actually believe in such fairy-tale goodness? Does he actually think that people will stop being discriminatory, prejudiced, and bigotted just because it's the right thing to do??? By his reasoning their really should be no prejudiced, discriminatory, hateful, hurtful people in the world--- and yet, I do think I've seen a few of them still lingering around.

If people should do the right thing because it's the right thing, as Governor Herbert says, then why is religion a protected class? You would think that people who hold religion dear would know to do the right thing, eh?

It's time to MAJORLY pfuque with the Mormon Pagan Fertility Cult and Money Machine by any and all legal means, including DAILY protests on Temple Square.

AND, some intrepid reporter needs to investigate the aversion therapy (aka "torture") that was going on under the guise of "science" at Brigham Young "University" (another Mormon cookie-cutter machine, producing brainwashed little Mormons to go forth and procreate like mad to out-populate the "gentiles").

The Mormons, the Roman Catholic hierarchy, the Southern Baptists and (some if not most) Evangelical Protestants are the greatest threat to our life, liberty and pursuit of happiness in these United States.
