Are we surprised - the US has spent the last 8 years under a homophobic administration committed to gaining its power by turning back the clock on equality for its gay citizens, and keeping them in a closet based state of segregation and invisibility. Why - to deflect the peoples attention from the catastrophy of the Bush administration by their pandering to the segregationists religious people, who now that overt discrimination against Black folks is illegal and 'not in fashion', have chosen gay people as their next victim. And this administration has been full of Psychopaths from the top down, whose pleasure comes from destroying American true values, while stealing the wealth of this nation, and starting wars based on lies.

And of course they would oppose the resolution, and side with the pope. They don't care that they and the Pope have implicitly given approval to Iran hanging gays, and other nations murdering them or jailing them. And of course the Bush administration is encouraging the religiously deranged amongst our citizenry to bash gay people.
As is the Pope, despite what he says, for their are two sides to his mouth.

And note the hypocrisy - these are the people who talk about "life", while they really are those who encourage murder of minorities. Sieg Heil, Mein Fuhrers. Haven't you heard that Nazi Germany is dead, though 50 million died for it.
Wasn't that enough?

Criminals, plain and simple. Anything for lust for Power and Money and Influence. Nothing at all to do with God.

And the name Bush actually derives from the German name Busche. And Baby Boy Bush's grandfather prescott, via his bank in the 1930s, was one of the key financiers of Nazi Germany's re-armament. Anything for a dollar.

Reconvene Nurenburg!

This just shows that America is not the beacan of hope for all, that America is not on the side of humanity and freewill, that America is only for the few, that Americans are on the side of bigotry and intolerance and not righteous, that Americans are hateful and not open - minded, that Americans condone violence and abuse and not safety and security! I feel that the false dreams and hopes that Americans have taken pride in have proved to the world that the United States of America is not the savior of humanity, the beacon of liberty and the leader in justice and dignity for all!

This is a fantastic article, especially as it situates current homophobic practices and beliefs around the world as being imposed colonial rhetoric and ideology. That the US did not agree to this declaration and continues to leave unexamined its homophobia - perhaps, as suggested by Scott Long, inherited from Victorian morality - is a testament to the fact that the United States is indeed a nation regressed into an infantile postcolonial paralysis, incapable of making educated, progressive analyses of its policies that affect human rights of its citizens and the world. How embarrassing. Your country continues to betray you. What are you doing about it?

Keep in mind that Obama has more to think about and frankly more important matters than a minority of people who really don't have the rights that are supposed to be granted to all citizens. Yes, I agree, we should have the right to marry, as well as the right to exist, but that simply isn't the case right now. If Obama wants to really impress me, he needs to work to get this country back on the path to stability. Once the major problems are at least examined, and ducked, then he can move on to other things.

I am with Thomas...last week I would have thought Obama would take care of this right away..and sign on. Now.. He'll probably consult Rick Warren and see if he should or not.

No, Obama is going to have to look at this matter more closely. He's going to have to consult and wait until the time is right to make any kind of reaction to this. Maybe in a few years he'll be able to address this type of issue.

Let me see, Obama has yet to make a statement on the rallies about Prop 8. Of course, he did make a statement on Rick Warren the day of the commotion!

Obama has priorities and they are not the gay community.

Why am I not surprised? Oh yeah, it's because the US has a history of not signing UN documents that the US doesn't like for some stupid reason or other.

Last week I would have reacted differently -- I would have thought, "Obama will right this wrong once he's in office."
