Uruguay clears way for gay adoptions

(Montevideo, Uruguay) Uruguay is clearing the way for gay couples to adopt children.
The Senate’s final approval Wednesday makes Uruguay the first country in Latin America to allow gay and lesbian couples the opportunity to adopt.
The executive branch now will decide when the law takes effect. The change is supported by socialist President Tabare Vazquez’s Broad Front coalition, while the Roman Catholic Church has voiced strong disapproval.Under Vazquez, Uruguay already legalized gay civil unions and ended a ban on homosexuals in the military.
The law gives judges less say over adoptions and shifts decision making to the national Institute of the Children and Adolescents.

People do not seem to want gay and lesbian persons to adopt. The main fear I am told is because the homosexual adult adopting couple may molest(whatever and God forbid)the child or children. Also many people can not understand how “love” can be expressed rightfully to a child by dykes and faggots.Oh well. It is time for us all to reevaluate ourselves and our points of views. I was ever so happy when I lived in SF,CA and saw a white gentleman holding his newly adopted AA son proudly because his birthright parents were in rehab and prison respectively. The gentleman is well respected, well rounded(he had to pass a psychological evaluation), and well prepared to be a parent. Let us , instead of hating focus on how we can better instruct ourselves on sexual responsibility and accountibility rather than mere sexual regulations regarding hormones, drugs, sex,and alcohol; all of which we all(heterosexual and homosexual alike) know about all to well. I would much rather have these little ones adopted by sound and sane same sex parents than to hide themselves in holes in the ground to avoid predators of all kinds.
About DiegoX comment, that’s probably truth Roman Catholic Church is influential, maybe in the past it was more influential than it is now. I can talk about Colombia, and the Constituion clearly mention the freedom of cult. I think the influence is not legally explicit, but there are many politicians that are Catholics. In Colombia all the gay rights have been achieved by Judicial rules, not by congress. In the next months the Constitutional Court is going to rule about the Adoption issue. I hope it will be favorable for Colombian same-sex couples. (Sorry for my english,it in’t good at all)
While I recognize the role that faith plays in the lives of some straight and gay people, the fact of the matter is that the official affairs of a country are best and most fairly conducted for the greatest majority of its people when done in a strictly secular manner. Separation of religion and state is necessary to get things done in the most efficient manner possible from human
rights and equality for all, quicker adoption of as many children as possible into more homes gay or straight that can
pass required established standards for adoptions, public health and education, etc.
It looks like Uruguay is becoming an interesting country to visit one day. I would like to know more about it.
Bor Baxton,
Thanks for the translation into English.

When I post in Irish Gaelic about gay news from Ireland on the very rare occasion it shows up in 365 gay.com, I give a very exact translation into English immediately in the very same posting so that every single thing I said in Irish Gaelic is precisely known in English. I very rarely ever write publicly in another language as English is still the first language for the majority of people living here in the USA, is what ties diverse people together and is the language 365gay.com articles and those of other USA-based news services are written in.
The Roman Catholic Church is very powerful and influential all over Latin America. Uruguay is the most secular country in the region, with a sharp separation between church and state. That is why this bill was passed in Uruguay and not any other Latinamerican country.
I translated the JOrdan Luke’s comment. “I wish Chile became the next country to legalize adoption for same-sex couples because the Chilean Constitution is founded in equality for all the Chileans. It’s horrible to know the great quantity of orphans! and despite of that the politicians remain discriminate against a million Chileans (there are like a million of gays in Chile)”
Jordan Luke, ich stimme mit Morgan überein. Wenn jeder von uns eine beliebige Sprache verwendet, werden wir uns nie verständigen.
If you didn’t understand that, I didn’t understand what you wrote. Presumably you know English, or you wouldn’t have been able to comment on the article. Let’s all put our comments in the same language as the articles.

Jordan Luke,
I am not quite sure what all you said. A translation would be have been nice for those of your readers who don’t speak, read or write Spanish.
Way to go Uruguay on equality rights. It seems to be that these smaller, less powerful countries are the ones taking the bull by the horns and granting full equality rights to all of it’s citizens despite the stiff opposition from the Roman Catholic Church. Of course the Church has been denied any say in this matter and should be, considering it’s role and less then apologetic attitude towards all of the abuse victims in it’s care. Certainly, the current administration in Washington must take note from these smaller countries, stand up to the church, repeal DOMA, DADT, bring in Hate Crimes legislation and start taxing these churches and institutions that would try to deny us our full and equal rights under the American constitution.
