UK Priest: Tattoo sodomy warnings on gays

(London) A Church of England priest is under fire after calling for gays to be forcibly tattooed with a sodomy warning.
The Rev. Peter Mullen, who is chaplain to the London Stock Exchange, made that remark and other incendiary homophobic comments on his internet blog.Mullen said the forced tattoos would be similar to warning placed on packages of cigarettes.
“Let us make it obligatory for homosexuals to have their backsides tattooed with the slogan ‘Sodomy can seriously damage your health,’ their chins with ‘Fellatio kills.’
In another posting, the 66-year old Mullen calls for gay pride parades – which he called “obscene” – to be outlawed.
In yet another, he blasted another Church of England priest, the Rev. Martin Dudley, for blessing the civil partnership of two fellow clerics.
“The Bishop of London is in a high huff, Because Dr Dudley has married a puff; And not just one puff – he’s married another: Two priests, two puffs and either to other.”
Bishop of London the Rt Rev Richard Chartres has criticized Dudley for conducting the ceremony, but chastised Mullen for the blog postings.
“While clergy are entitled to their own personal views, we recognize that the content of this text is highly offensive and is in no way reflective of the views of the Diocese of London,” Chartres said in a statement to The Evening Standard newspaper.
The paper also reported that Mullen is under investigation and may face a disciplinary inquiry over his comments.
Mullen dismisses the criticism, calling his postings “satire.”
“I wrote some satirical things on my blog and anybody with an ounce of sense of humor or any understanding of the tradition of English satire would immediately assume that they’re light-hearted jokes,” he told the paper. “I certainly have nothing against homosexuals. Many of my dear friends have been and are of that persuasion. What I have got against them is the militant preaching of homosexuality.”

When someone tells you that the Bible condemns homosexual relationships and then quotes from a translation that actually uses the term “homosexual,” those are clear signals that both the argument and the translation are phony.
Both are forms of disinformation and propaganda. They are heavily biased in favor of particular sectarian ideologies, especially fundamentalism, that are designed to promote homophobia and bigotry under the guise of divine approval and protection.
For a more fair and accurate analysis of what the several Bible passages actually say and how they can be interpreted, try the following resources from MCC:

It’s little wonder people who are hurting turn away from religion instead of to it.
If you want to quote the Bible, quote the whole thing. The passage says that he who is with sin will not enter the kingdom of God; however, Jesus was sent to wash away EVERYONE’S sins. WE ARE ALL SINNERS, straight or gay. It is NOT for any one of us to stand in judgement of another’s behavior. Don’t forget that Jesus said, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” And they all left.
Tolerance and compassion was the way of Jesus Christ and so should it be for us.
From the 6th chapter of 1 Corinthians, not an editted that leaves out part of the sentence:
9Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
Wow, this guy could move to the U.S. and register as a Republican
Gail, eieth you have a truly disturbed sense of humor or you need some serious cousneling. “You like gay people”. That’s nice – but I think you have me confused withsoneone who gives a sh*t. Even so, I can say in all fairness that I “tolerate” straight people myself – even though they run this planet and have done a pretty shit*y job of it.
Kim – You are truly a pathetic human being. Jer, Bob – I won’t pretending to educate willfully ignorant people, so brainwashed they have no real ability to think for themselves and whose arrogance is exceeded only by their ignorance.
Im gay and I take offence to this… People are becoming more and more militant against homosexuals. Just read the way he is talking… he has friends “of that persuasion” … smh… [screw] everyone.
Most moderately intelligent people know what the Bible says about homosexuality. It is wrong. Straights are now getting fed up with the minorities (like homo’s) marching about what they do behind closed doors. The majority of us do not agree with gay’s or their wishes. If they want to continue to go against God’s word, go ahead. But don’t ask others to back (no pun intended) you up on it. It is disgusting! And ultimately you will pay the price.
I think Lefty needs to read further on in the Bible where it says homosexuals will not enter the kingdom of Heaven (1 corinthians 6:9)
To hell with a tattoo just kill all the gays!
Oh leave the poor man alone, it was said as a joke and I find it rather silly and funny. I like gays, and most gay folks I know have a great sense of humor. It is only the people who are so caught up in political correctness that are making humor difficult to even consider. LIGHTEN UP!
Bubba – I understand the temptation to lay blame somewhere, anywhere – I am poz msyelf – but playing the blame game does no good. With that logic, I could just as easily blame the gay guys who continued to screw around unsafely even when they knew full well how HIV was predominantly spread. But again, the blame game accomplishes nothing. I am just proud that it was laregly because of the efforts of GLBT activists that research moved as fast as it did so that I am still alive today and doing great. Without the Larry Kramer’s and the ACT-UP people, who knows how much longer it might have taken for the “cocktails” to come around. If anything, OUR efforts are the reason that Africa now has medication that actually helps a LOT – when they don’t have total MORONS running their health ministry (just recently changed!). We have accomplished a lot in the face of great adversity. We are strong and we have have so much more to do and to offer. I just feel uncomfortable when people start placing blame on whole groups of people when what came to pass was not intentional.
NO rj, ignorance like yours is the real “abomination”. People brainwashed into mythologies from thousands of years ago that defy sound reason and good judgment are those to be leary of. I sugegst you read the book “Rescuing Christ from the Christians”.
WILL THIS ALSO INCLUDE THE CATHOLIC PRIESTS,THAT LIKE LITTLE BOYS?
Actually, if you’re going to tattoo anyone’s bum, it should be Negroes in Africa, where AIDS originated, and where 2/3 of all AIDS case are. Or the Negroes in America who are taking it in the bootie unprotected, then having unprotected sex with females. That’s why black females are now the largest group with AIDS in America. Or just tattoo the self-loathing, closeted priest who wrote this garbage. He can get all 3 of her holes tattoo’ed!!
