Loading ...UK Permanently Bars US Homophobes Phelps, Savage

(London) The British government has published a list of people permanently barred from entering the country for fostering extremism or hatred.
The list includes two well known American gay opponents – Rev. Fred Phelps and talk-radio host Michael Savage.Phelps is the founder of the Topeka, Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church.
Westboro’s members are made up mostly of Phelps’ relatives. Although it professes to be Baptist, it is not affiliated with any national Baptist group.
Westboro operates Web sites including GodHatesFags and GodHatesAmerica and has been described as a cult.
Phelps and the church first came to national attention when he organized a protest by his followers outside the 1998 funeral for Matthew Shepherd, the gay college student who was beaten to death in Wyoming. The killing, Phelps’ protest, and the reaction of townsfolk led to the play “The Laramie Project.”
Church members routinely demonstrate at the funerals of people with AIDS and most recently at the funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq.
In February, Phelps announced that his followers would demonstrate a production of the play “The Laramie Project” at a British college. The British government said at the time that he would not be allowed into the country.
The government ban announced Tuesday bans Phelps permanently.
Savage was placed on the list not only for his anti-gay remarks but also for calling the Muslim holy book, the Quran, a “book of hate” and for saying autism in most cases is “a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out.” Savage also said greedy doctors and drug companies were creating a “national panic” by overdiagnosing autism.
In 2003, Savage launched into a homophobic tirade against a caller to his MSNBC cable TV show in which called the man “a sodomite” and told him: “Get AIDS and die, you pig.”
The network immediately fired Savage.
Savage issued what he called an apology saying he had been set up by a left-wing conspiracy.
The British government list also includes Stephen Donald Black, an American white supremacist, Hamas parliament member Yunis Al-Astal and Egyptian cleric Safwat el-Higazi.
I said nothing of “Fred Phelps” – don’t even know who that is – I spoke of Michael Savage – yes, Michael Savage – the guy who used to work in a health clinic in San Francisco and helped gay people – the guy who now is under siege from the Gay Mafia – and saying that the Brown Shirts were not lead by homosexuals is akin to denying the Holocaust – you can have your own opinion but you can’t have your own facts. And standing up against Gay Fascism gets you painted as a homophobe or a latent homosexual – that’s a laugher – sounds like a change the subject tactic – not wanting to deal with the facts – again an inconvenient truth.
Huckaboom…another pathetic victim-whiner from the ruling elite right-wing fundy religious crowd (Orange County Republican, perhaps?). Obviously fearful that anyone not marching in fascist lockstep with his narrow-minded elitist group will somehow undermine his panoply of unearned, undeserved privileges. Interesting that he seems drawn to this GLBT forum like a moth to a flame…latent homosexuality?

I thought Matthew Shepherd was killed as part of a robbery. I think Michael Savage pointed that out. So the truth gets you banned from countries. Soon the truth will be banned from this country. Oh – I guess it already is – Jesus is the Truth and the Way and the Life and He’s been banned from the Obamination.
If only we could ban them from the U.S. Wouldn’t that be nice?
As a British gay man, I welcome the news that Britain has banned these hate-spreading homophobes.
Now it’s about time that the UK starts to grant asylum to Iranian gays facing persecution and even death for being gay in Iran…Instead of simply reacting to pressure from gay groups each time..
So, UK Government, a good start but still much more progress to be made..

Countries use to ship prisoners and other degenerates to Australia…too bad we don’t currently have a “dumping ground” where we could safely deposit Fred & his hate mongering followers. I pray for his brain washed family.

I assume, they are the one called, “one husband and 20 wife”ies” in somewhere colorado city. Father had sex with underage daughter, it cause shirley Phelp got brain damage. actually, the whole family got Brain damage.
they should ban the whole family, not just two. because, they can arrage to send their son, or daughter to there and do stupid things.
There is a big difference between freedom of speech and hate speech, the latter can can incite people to commit acts of violence and even kill. I think the UK government was right in banning people who advocate the annihilation of specific groups of people including our own. Freedom of speech doesn’t imply that people can say hateful things with the intent of harming or killing others.
Yay, England. Too bad we can’t do that in our own country.
