It shows that, if the allegations are true, there is homophobia to be dealt with in the NYPD. If the allegations are false, it demonstrates a willingness by people to play a gay-panic game to try to discredit the police. Although there is a lot of important news that is clearly core to our interests, we need to pay attention to stories on the margins also. This news is definitely relevant to our community – it is about using a (simulated) sex act between men as a weapon.
