Make it Federal. I am sick of people thinking that their hatred is going to accomplish anything good for themselves or anyone else. You live by the sword surely you will die by the sword. May God Watch over us all and keep us safe from these dangers.

Oh hai Drewski!

Many years ago there was the story of a homeless guy in NYC. Normally placid, the locals gave him food.

Then one fine NYC morning he pummeled a business owner’s head with a hammer.

Not because she was female. Not because she was a business owner. Just because it seemed like the thing to do.

There was a group of guys who went out at night and picked some guy at random. They would run up, punch him down to the ground and then run off laughing.

Why? Because it was funny to them. Re-enacting some form of real life Clockwork Orange

It’s just plain silly to think a nutjob is going to avoid attacking a gay man because it would add 2 years. Some weird form of “I could do 4 years in prison, but that extra enhancement? Naw, I’ll just go home and smoke a bowl instead.”

FYI: People seriously intent on committing anti-gay violence, simply have to avoid leaving any evidence it was because the person was gay.

Look, people. One of the main reasons things don’t get done in our favor is because (collectively) we are a bunch of hand wringers who do nothing much more than whine about “when is something going to get done to stop this violence?”

Stop ALLOWING the hets to push you around!

DO something.

The bullies will run like the cowards they ARE if you stand up to them. If it takes carrying a weapon of some sort, or taking self defense classes or whatEVER, then DO it. Stop the whining and DO something about it.

The riots of the 1960′s CAUSED government to pass the civil rights act. People became AFRAID to push darker skinned americans around anymore. If you want something DONE, then start DOING it.

We’re an inch away from getting this on the federal level, which would force Oklahoma to comply. (It’s passed the House, right?)

This is *exactly* why a lot of us have been saying, “Let’s not dismiss the passing of the federal hate crimes bill or ENDA.” A lot of states really need this legislation. It may not be marriage equality, but it *matters*.

No, I am not saying a gun is always the answer to all problems. I AM saying that if some bone-head het is attacking, give them EXACTLY what they deserve. If I am under attack by some homophobe, he or she had BETTER hope I don’t have a firearm handy, because I WILL use it and NOT feel remorse for it. If that offends, then too damned bad.

Never let anyone say that I have a problem with response. Chasing down homophobic fools and beating some sense into them…well, there are times when the power of counter-intimidation isn’t the worst thing you can do. When Bubba gets his ass thrashed by some angry homos, and is then dropped off in the parking lot of the Yeehaw Saloon wearing a tutu, then it shows that actions do have consequences. What strutting macho bonehead is gonna want to explain to anybody else that he got his ass beat by a bunch of cocksuckers? Leave the guns and knives and nunchucks and brass knuckes out of it. You want a discreet weapon? Steeltoes. I’m sure some of you wear them to work. I used to. Three or four or five on one (the way gay-bashings usually play out) should make weapons unnecessary. Random attacks are NOT cool. The only time it would ever be acceptable to do this would be if that person had been witnessed to engage in homophobic behavior. And again, no, I’m not endorsing such action, because it’s illegal to advocate for assaulting somebody else. If it happened…well…
