* Openly gay director Lee Daniels earned an Oscar nod Tuesday morning for his film “Precious” on Tuesday morning. The film earned a total of six Oscar nominations including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress. The annual awards show is March 7.
In addition, Colin Firth earned a best actor Oscar nomination for his role in “A Single Mind” The film is the story of a man dealing with the loss of his partner.

* The sign-toting disciples of the Westboro Baptist Church received a humorous reception at a protest in San Francisco last week. Outnumbering the WBC troupe, San Franciscans brought sign’s sporting “Where’s Waldo?” and “God hates flags” slogans. Hilarity did, in fact, ensue.

* Stephen Colbert forced Harold Ford to explain the difference between flip-flopping on issues and changing his opinion Monday night. “You appear to be willing to change your positions to appeal to a New York audience. How do you respond to that compliment? Because it is a compliment,” Colbert said. Apparently, a Tennessee upbringing is partly to blame.

President Barack Obama will be attending The Fellowship’s annual National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday and maybe it’s time to him to address some gay rights issues. Not only is the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell discussion pertinent this week, but The Fellowship’s ties to Ugandan lawmakers pushing the “kill the gays” bill needs to be addressed.

* One of my favorite parts of Mad magazine was inside the back page where you folded the page to create a new picture. I had a flashback of that as I checked out a similarly folded photo of Twilight’s leading men.

* And finally, in the faux-news department, a short radio report on the banning of same-sex friendships care of The Onion Radio News. The report entails a Colorado court ruling calling “friendly contact between two people of the same gender unnatural.”
