Transgender Ga. politician wins legal battle

(Atlanta, Georgia) Georgia’s top court has ruled in favor of a transgender politician sued by two political opponents who claimed she misled voters by running as a female.
The unanimous ruling by the Georgia Supreme Court on Monday found that the two unsuccessful candidates for Riverdale City Council failed to produce evidence of fraud, misconduct or illegality.Michelle Bruce landed one of four council seats in 2003 in a campaign to attract more jobs and residents to Riverdale. But she faced several opponents when she ran for re-election in 2007, and eventually lost her seat.
Georgia Fuller and Stan Harris sued last year, saying Bruce misled voters by identifying herself as a female. The complaint identified Bruce as “Michael Bruce” and asked a judge to rule the November election results invalid.

In Georgia of all places…right on! How long will it be for the Bush administration to start spouting off and calling the judges down there “liberal activists” I wonder…
Uhhhh, Dave you must not be very familiar with the Great State of Georgia. If you look at Metro Atlanta (a city of 5 million people) we have one of the largest gay populations in country.
So what did she win, if she lost her seat? or did she? Finish the story please…
She lost her seat in an election. She won the court fight.
Attention editors. Am I the only one who doesn’t understand what you’ve written? So she lost but the winner still sued her? And why would the winners sue to invalidate her loosing? The quality of writing on this site is the pits.
I’ve been saying it for years. Georgia has a far worse reputation than it deserves. And Florida has a far better reputation than it deserves. As far as southern states go, Georgia isn’t that horrible for homosexuals. I know the bar isn’t set particularly high. And Georgia’s certainly no match for the liberal Northeast and West Coast. But still…
Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin is staunchly pro-gay. Georgia was only one of three southern states – along with Tennessee and Arkansas – that didn’t have a sodomy law at the time Lawrence v Texas was decided in 2003. There’s no ban on gay adoption. And Atlanta has an anti-discrimination law which hasn’t been repealed by the voters. Which is more than we can say for Miami.
