Tampa is clearly not in a position to take gay tourism money either! And being a severe sunburn and skin cancer state…..along with a constitutional amendment and a prohibition on gays adopting kids…I can think of friendlier and healthier places to spend my dollar.

The City of Orlando and does have a discrimination policy protecting sexual orientation and does provide domestic partner benefits and Disney and Universal are VERY supportive of their GLBT employees, including DM benefits. Mayor Dyer and City Council, including openly gay Commissioner Sheehan, are true leaders in eliminating discrimination in Central Florida. Florida has some serious problems, no doubt, but please get your facts straight (pun intended).

My parents have a place in Florida. My partner and I used to go there every year. I would also take a 2nd trip by myself to visit them. I told them that unfortunately, no more trips to Florida. That state is as bad as it gets for gays and lesbians and it is getting worse. The intolerance of that state is of us is from both native rednecks as well as Caribbean immigrants. We all need to boycott FL. Fortunately I can proudly visit my parents when they are back up north in Massachusetts. Florida is as bad as it gets for gays.

Please correct this to show that it was the Hillsborough County Commission, not the Tampa City Council. Tampa City Council is not as close-minded and hypocrtical as the rednecks on the county commission.

I was looking for a place to take a vacation in the near future, and i had even considered gulf coast FLA, but this decision makes me rethink my position. I’m not going to spend my dollars where I’m not welcome.

Florida is a knuckle dragging state at best, but places like Tampa are even worse.I have been here (not by choice) for 3 years and hate it. There are so many red necks here. As soon as I can it’s back to Calif.

I think come April of this year or next, after organization, we (LGBT) need to come together and just NOT pay taxes, lets have a walk out on paying/filing taxes.

They can put us all in jail or they can get the msg. that we don’t want to pay more taxes to a society that uses our money only to hurt and to disclude us!

I’ll second Randyl’s invitation. We’re blue down here in Sarasota and its a lovely town as well. We have one of the best beaches in the country and culture to rival a much bigger city. In fact WE don’t even go to Tampa.
