What's been presented is that he had to have prior authorization to participate in an interview. He had permission for the "Today" interview, but not the other two, and that was the point of contention. His attorney said she thought permission for "Today" constituted permission for more than one interview as long as it was with NBC shows. That point needs to be clarified. If Hatch let it stay at that he could've salvaged some dignity. He's coming off like a punk who'd rather be defiant, instead of a man who wants to finish serving his sentence and put it behind him. Gay has nothing to do with it--hell, if anything, I'm grateful that he's in Barnstable County Jail just so his foolishness is contained. He's an attention whore. It's time for him to stop embarrassing himself and his family and be a man.

TigerTzu,

Vital local services come out of state and county taxes that are in my state of Maryland paid together at the same time.

Vital services like fire and police.
The police came with 2 cars when I called to complain about a man harassing me with his loud and ugly religious fanaticism on my front porch. The police detained him and his female partner for over half an hour on my street while interviewing him and taking down a report after talking to me. I made clear to the police officer listening to me that this duo going door to door were not wanted at my property by describing the man's conduct. The Mormons always left immediately without argument when told to leave. This guy from some other outfit with a bushy beard on his face was unlike any other that was on my porch. He was loud and ugly. The female police officer was polite, efficient and professional and dealt with the situation immediately after hearing my side of things.

My MD tax dollars at work, TigerTzu.
So am I going to want to harm myself, my family, friends, neighbors and my community by not paying say my Maryland and local taxes out of my being discriminated against as a gay man. Not when Maryland is ahead of all the surrounding states for improving quality of life for GLBTs. Delaware (now suddenly catching up to MD in its new progay laws in just the last couple of months) being the notable exception amongst MD closest neighbors. And New Jersey maybe poised to pass marriage equality after its November gubernatorial elections.

My quality of life here in Maryland as a gay man is good and improving as new progay laws are recently passed in my state. My MD county is progay in its county government. The county executive Leggett is a progay straight man and a long standing personal friend of a gay friend of mine as well who attended my friend's non legally binding wedding to his partner years ago.

So, I am pleased to pay my Maryland taxes. I live in a good county in an OK but improving state.

Our gay and partnered county employees get county insurance and health benefits that cover them and their partners if they apply for those things if I know right. A county judge stood up to the legal arm of Pat Robertson's antigay setup some year ago after 11 county residents complained to them about these gay partner county employee benefits. Judge said that the county was within its authority to grant these benefits for it gay county employees and ruled against Pat Robinson's legal group's case.

So, I calmly pay my taxes even though they are a bit high, knowing I live in a good and decent area and have services that I can rely upon. There was a fire in the woods across the street from me one year and the fire department (that relies on my tax dollars) was on the scene within 2 minutes after I called for help. After an hour and a half and with a lot of male and female fire personel on the scene, the fire which scorched a large tree nine feet up was under control and out. They worked hard turning up the fallen leaves and wetting them and the trees down. Neighboring houses including mine could have been at risk if we didn't have as good and well staffed local fire department.

I don't agree with your point of view in this case. TigerTzu.

No tax code for 2nd class citizens. He should not be paying taxes unless he has equal rights. Anti-American to pick and choose which laws certain segments of our population has to follow. It's called discrimination.

I was concerned Richard would be discriminated against back in 2004 when we won the million dollars.... and was pleasantly surprised when in fact he did win....

But I have no concern now that he's been discriminated against for being gay. He was simply found guilty for not paying his taxes, and is where he belongs...

Sorry, you aren't going to find solidarity with other gay people over a false charge..

Richard, I pay my taxes without complaint. It's what I do as an American to contribute my share to the land where I live just as I would anywhere else in the world if I were a citizen of another country. You should have even less trouble paying your taxes since you won that million. If I were you, I'd pay the taxes right off the top of the winnings with the help of a trusted accountant and just get on with life. Complying with the law of the land is easier than going to prison where a lot of not-so-nice folks who have done far worse things than tax-evasion reside. You lucky man, a million dollars. The most I ever won on a lotto ticket was $40 and that was after winning 4 OUT OF 6 NUMBERS on that lotto ticket. Took me years to get 4 out 6 numbers right on a game that changes every week. Winning a million dollars is not an everday event for most people. You should consider yourself a lucky fellow. Just pay the taxes as the law requires and enjoy the rest of your winnings. We who are not so lucky don't respect your whining. And it just gets me in the gut is that you frivolously claim discrimination as a gay man when the real problem is both your greed and your failure to follow the same laws as the rest of your fellow Americans.

I agree. He gives gays a bad rep like Perez. But to play devil's advocate, none of us is afforded the full rights and benefits of every other US citizen. So why pay full taxes?
