Hey SOLDIERinIRAQ,

You might as well quit now -- the American people don't appreciate your efforts, and will never fight for you. Maybe against you, but not for you.

Get on with it, and allow gays to openly serve in the military. Then maybe I can apply since the economy is such shit, and there are no jobs.

Bud,

Nothing strange really. For some reason the system puts the majority of your comments in the "pending for approval" section. We'll get the tech department to clear that up.

Have a good day.

Sincerely,

James

If White America can get over its prejudices and elect a Black man president, then heterosexual America can get over its ignorant stereotypes and acknowledge that there are already tens of thousands of brave Gay sailors, airmen, soldiers and marines in Arlington National Cemetery who have made the ultimate sacrifice for this ungrateful and undeserving nation.

It is far past time to no more serve in silence in order to preserve and to protect, with one’s life and limb, the rights and freedoms of others while being denied the most basic freedom of all -- the right to simply be who one is; without intimidation or oppression.

How pathetic that someone like Obama, who has become the beneficiary of a nation that protects all others, except for members of the GLBT community, from invidious discrimination, is so slow to show moral outrage towards the inhumane treatment of this last minority which is still denied the full benefit of American citizenship.

Shame on Obama; shame on Congress and shame on America. This is not a country of free men and women; this is a country of bigots, hypocrites, and oppressors. This is not a country of religious freedom, this is a country where religion has become the whore of politics and visa versa. This is not a country that values wisdom and peace, this is country that makes a virtue out of ignorance and still makes war a rite of passage into manhood and dominance.

There may still be hope that America can live up to her high sounding ideals and her overwrought platitudes of Liberty and Justice for All. But for more than two hundred years her people have been a dismal failure at achieving those goals except through either violent upheaval or by excruciatingly slow increments -- such as, the civil war and the civil rights movement in the US.

You’d think that America would have had plenty of time to learn to believe in its own self-aggrandizing rhetoric of egalitarianism by now. The GLBT community is the most diverse minority which is represented in every race, religion, social status and ethnicity in America. Without remedying the injustices which are incessantly heaped upon our community each and every day, this America, this self-appointed bastion of liberty; this guardian of democracy’s eternal promise rings increasingly hollow.

Its far past time for the not-so-United States of America to either put up or shut up!

PS - BTW, 365gay.com staff, what's the deal with my posts not showing up for hours later ...or, most of the time, not at all. Are we censoring people here now? It certainly isn't for language so it must be for something else which somebody doesn't like. That's a little GOP isn't it. This is happening far too frequently to be "web error". I'm sure I'm not the only one who's noticed a long "delay" or an outright "disappearance" of their comments.

Hmmmmm....very strange indeed.

Wayne & Morgan, I totally concur with both your comments. How can we as a country tell the world we are the greatest country on earth when we can't even grant full equality to our LGBT citizens? We were supposed to be the champion of freedom.....since when? If that were the case, we would have been the trail blazer on human and civil rights as well as the leader in the vanguard of equality. We've failed on all counts, dismally as more enlightened societies leave us in the dust. Our golden era is long over.

I have decided that even though I am more than halfway to retirement. I am going to leave the military when I am done here in Iraq. The reasons are simple. I am a well trained and educated soldier having a Masters degree and advanced military training that will translate well in civilian life. Although I whole heartedly want to use my special skills and education for the benefit of soldiers, it may be best for me as a 2nd class citizen to work in the VA system. I need to be able to have a life outside of the military. A life that I do not have to hide. I need to be able to defend myself when others bleed derogatory nonsense in my presence because they don't know it is me they are speaking of. I need to have my loved one standing there with the rest of the families ready to hug and kiss me just the same as any others spouse when i finally get off that plane and shake the sand from my boots. I punish myself continuously in the service our our country and I am getting tired of no one fighting for me.

Obama, in the simple suggestion of a delay in freeing me from my footlocker you have went by the way of every other politician. Promises are only promises if they can be broken. You have broken a promise to me that may have been one of the more important reasons I gave my vote to you. If I voted for McCain at least I wouldn't have had hope. Now the hope you put into me you have destroyed. I don't believe you anymore. And it only took you two weeks to tear down my faith.

With your economic package so fattened with excess spending because you want it to get through our party (dems) you have alienated the republicans. You said you were going to be bipartisan. You said you were going to be the president of not just dems but the repungicans too... It has only taken you two weeks and already you have failed to show this promise true. A silver lining in your grey cloud is the CHIP. You cant go wrong in serving children.

Obama in the next few weeks, months, and years I am going to look to you. I will say "It looks like he can't get anything done" when you fail and fail again by improperly spinning your ideas. You need to be an executive and have your committees come with the ideas of how to make things work. Its not a consensus you require its good ideas for you to decide upon. Be the executive we elected you to be. Be the revolutionary of change we voted for.

I hope that these two weeks are just going to be a watermark on a tapestry of greatness. I wish to see that watermark fade with the times. I am a soldier, so far only wounded by your inaction, and lack of compassion for the soldiers you hold the highest position over.

I am gay
I am proud to be a soldier
I hope upon hope to be proud to be myself and a soldier.
