Of course, this study is not surprising (nor the one that was just published a few days ago, in June 2010).

Certainly, the fact lesbian pregnancies tend to be planned/wanted by older and (presumably) more mature/stable and (presumably) more involved parents does have a great deal to do with it.

But there's clearly at least somewhat MORE to these results than that.

Since, as the more recent June 2010 study author correctly points out, "growing up in households with less power assertion" has been demonstrated to foster healthier socio-psychological development, it doesn't seem implausible at all that lesbian parents may in fact be significantly more likely to strike the RIGHT BALANCE between overly coercive and overly permissive parenting styles that has been repeatedly shown to maximize a child's chance of achieving optimal socio-psychological and cognitive health.

For one, given that both gay men and lesbians are far more likely than straight men and women to possess a greater number characteristics ordinarily (i.e., "traditionally") associated more frequently with the opposite sex, a two-homosexual-parent household may very well be less 'sexually bi-polar', if you will, and therefore statistically more likely to foster the kind of stable, middle-of-the-road home environment so important to positive child development.

[In multiple respects, interestingly enough, gay men and lesbians are sex-role hybrids, of sorts; and thus, conceivably at least, not as likely to exhibit the more extreme kinds of sex-role behavioral traits, as straight men and women are.]

This society is the society of the alternative parenting models. The effect is 50% divorce rates, which correlates into failure.

The only sure fire success model, is mother and father married and together, and that is no guarantee without a God-centered family.

So, according to Ms. "Leeanne Menses Henry" below, if 2 women are better than one, that means 1 woman is better than none...ergo, heterosexual parents are better that 2 gay men parents. Wow...interesting that this article mentions only the results of lesbian parents (2 women)...did they just not include gay parents (2 men) in the study? I can't imagine that... let's have the fair and balanced (i.e. COMPLETE) results of the study published...I bet it says gays are worse than heteros...and this article (and the accompanied responses by lesbians) seem to concur. C'mon, gay men parents! Demand that your part of the study be released, too!

I think Susan is missing the point: Any kind of quantitative research is going to be statistical. The data indicate that children parented by lesbians have a statistically siginificant representation in a 'success' category as opposed to those not parented by lesbians. The inference is that lesbian couples are more effective parents by that statistical measure. Pointing to variables that may or may not be part of the study doesn't negate the findings. C'mon people. This is a good story and good data. Much better than conservitards simply pulling out of their ass the idea that you need a dad. One study indicates you don't and you're better off with two moms.

Does planning make a baby better and her parents better?
Does our sexual orientation make us better parents?
I DOUBT IT!

There are so many variables in parenting, that it's impossible to blame our sexual orientation or the lack of birth control or abortion as the reason we're a good parent.

It just ain't that simple.

I'd like "them" to come up with a study of something everyone doesn't know already. Women are better parents. Two women together, are much better parents. No shocker there.
