This actually was followed in the Canadian mainstream press. It’s these very things and the having to fight for gay rights STILL that make the United States such a joke to other nations. They look at this crap and just shake their collective heads. World power my a$$ !! What world power has this hillbilly attitude so prevalent in their communities? Unreal.

Wayne M.; There are very few organized churches that support gay marriage, the VAST majority of churches the world over do not. I can count on one hand the Christian denominations in the US and Canada that allow gay marriage in their church. There is one major non-Christian church, Unitarian-Universalist, that allows gay marriage in the church. The Catholic Church, Muslims, and Anglicans (I haven’t figured out the Episcopalians yet) prohibit gay marriage in the church.

Francis: It is too bad that in your comments condemning organized religion that you chose to be as ignorant as the people you condemn. THE FACT IS that organized religion has also produced the strongest allies of both interracial marriage, same-sex marriage and LGBT equality and religion. Please do not let your own bigotry be an excuse to paint all religious people and religions with the same brush.

Refusing to marry a mixed race couple is no different from refusing to marry a same sex couple. I have no more sympathy for them than I do for gay couples who are not allowed to marry.

Being in an interracial relationship, I feel just terrible for this couple… I mean, please know, we support you. And you will get support from our community.

But being as well in a same-sex relationship, I have to say, this is the slippery slope people. Justice denied to some is justice denied to all. Maybe this can finally be the wake-up call that shows America just where these divisive, arrogant and patronizing ideologies will lead us…

When I hear of things like this happening in 2009 / 2010, it just makes me sick that there are so many ignorant, intolerant, bigoted racists still walking around making people miserable. It is bad enough that people like this are denying Gays their equal piece of the pie, but for them to deny a straight interacial couple the opportunities of legal marriage in this day and age, is just absolutely insane. I hope this couple will sue this justice of the peace to the extent that the law will allow and I would suggest that he start looking for another job because he will have one heck of a hefty bill to pay!

Should we be surprised. The restrict marriage movement first denies same-sex couples the right to marry and now interracial marriages are targetted by some of these same people. Mr. Injustice Keith Bardwell needs to understand a basic fact of life concerning heterosexual couples and children. Heterosexual couples can have sex and procreate outside of a legal marriage. (It is clear he is not aware of this fact.) He is only encouraging the couple to live together outside of legal marriage, not protecting any potential children of the union.
