I have no use for the gays who trample on gays. Yes, I am sorry for them, but they are gutless. And yes, I’ve heard ultimate horror stories about fears of coming out, eg suicide a trigger squeeze away.

I have told people I wish I could be a born again Christian – born gay. [smiles]

And any good psych can tell you that puritanism breeds perverts. THEY are made.

The reason cops have these stings against gay men is to attach arrest records to gay men so they have difficulty finding jobs or getting promotions. It is to criminalize being gay.

Heterosexuals never get arrest for having sex in public. They do it frequently. I’ve seen it in broad daylight several times.

And I just love it when people who clearly don’t have a clue what they’re talking about decide to jump in with both feet.

First of all, you are condemning Jermaine Jakes because you perceive his stepfather to be a bigot. I’m sure there are plenty of people here who have parents or other blood relatives who are bigots. Does that make them worthy of mockery to?

Judge people for their own actions. If Jermaine Jakes has mocked or condemned homosexuality, if he has “thrown rocks”, feel free to comment on his hypocrisy, but don’t condemn a person for the actions of another.

And even if you do feel comfortable mocking Jermaine Jakes because of his father’s actions, why would you do so when T D Jakes preaches that homosexuality and Christianity are not incompatible? I’m not going to claim that T D Jakes is a friend to the gay community, but he is about as far from being an enemy as it is possible for a Christian to be. Hell – the man is considered a scourge in the evangelical community for his “heretical” views on homosexuality.

This is a man who claims that the Bible talks of same-sex relationships without condemnation, and who has expressly stated that he does not believe that being homosexual automatically means you’re going to hell. Ironic that you chose to talk about throwing rocks considering this quote from T D Jakes himself in response to a question about homosexuality:

“You know something, I don’t know anybody of any faith who can say that they have no sin in their lives. Whether it’s homosexuality or lying on your income tax or speaking rudely to somebody at a window. What we call sin may differ from person to person, but who amongst us can say that they have no sin? Jesus said that. And he said, he that is without fault among you let him cast the first stone. I’m certainly not casting any stones at any particular group of people.”

I’m more than happy to condemn people who preach hatred and bigotry, but T D Jakes is not such a man. And his reward for refusing to condemn homosexuality? Ridicule from the Christian community, with accusations about his own sexuality and the sexuality of his children.

As I said before, I wouldn’t call him a friend to the gay community, but I certainly don’t see him as our enemy and if all Christians could adopt his view on homosexuality our lives would be a hell of a lot easier.

Regardless, this story is about his son and it has been propagated by the Christian media in an effort to humiliate and discredit T D Jakes. His son’s conduct is inappropriate and I’m sure the law will deal with him. He should certainly not be mocked by us – he’s going to get enough of that from his fellow Christians.

My heart goes out to that kid and his family. The closet is a dark and lonely place, all this time these people have been terrified and alone with their shame of not being able to tell the world that they have a gay family member that thet chose to hide.

I started a master’s at SMU and didn’t finish it because Tex-ASS was such a scary place.

I got arrested for “driving while gay;” my best friend got arrested for “driving while black” in the “wrong” neighborhood after dark. We were BOTH coming from a reception at our faculty advisor’s house (!).

Let Tex-ASS secede again; just make ‘em promise NOT to come back THIS time!

Give him time. He’ll learn.
