(Dallas, Texas) The stepson of megachurch pastor T.D. Jakes has been arrested on an indecent exposure charge.
Dallas police say Jermaine Jakes is accused of exposing himself to two undercover vice detectives last month. He turned himself in Thursday and was released on a $1,000 personal recognizance bond.His lawyer, Faith Johnson, didn’t return a call to the AP on Thursday. She told Dallas-Fort Worth television station KTVT: “We are aware of potential allegations involving Jermaine Jakes and are undertaking our own investigation of these allegations at this time.”
According to an arrest affidavit, the younger Jakes showed himself to the detectives in a public park near his stepfather’s church.
Jakes’ stepfather is a Dallas megachurch pastor who gave a sermon at the prayer service for Barack Obama on the morning he was sworn in as president.

Lewis – I understand your sentiment, and your open-mindedness is refreshing, but I’m not so sure it’s accurate to characterize the alleged event as a “victimless crime”.
Say Jakes had made quiet verbal arrangements in public for a later liaison in private – I’d view that conduct as victimless. (Even if the arrangement was a PAID one). Or say he’d engaged in some flirtatious behavior that stopped somewhere short of exposure. Then I’d agree that we should rally behind him.
Problem is, he’s accused of *pulling out his junk in public*. Not everyone wants to see such equipment in public; hell, I’d venture to guess that MOST people don’t. Consensual sexual behavior in private isn’t a nuisance to society (only an annoyance to religious busybodies); sexual aggressiveness in public is.

The comments that I have read are missing the bigger issue. Why is Dallas wasting precious resources on a victimless crime! The Gay community should be ralling behind Jermaine. Lord knows w/ Jakes as his stepdad he needs all the help he can get.
If and when an evangelical Church ever admitts it doesn’t have a clue when it comes to human sexuality, I’ll change my “choice” and become str8.
this is the kind of thing that happens when people are forced into the closet; they act out in dangerous and frequently illegal ways; I hope that Jermaine can get the help he needs in dealing with what sounds like emotional abuse by his step-father; anyone who has to listen to their parent condemn them for being how God made them needs support

Seems like the cops should automatically arrest these evangelists when they first start their homophobic rants; they all seem to eventually get caught with their pants down.
Far better it be for any organized religion to state openly: “We have unhealthy views regarding human sexuality”.
