Great pick Obama, a Latina racist. You pick your apointees with the same wisdom and insight you bring to your choice of religious advisors.

SAD. what is this country coming to, people only being chosen because of their RACE, sounds like racism to me!

Will she even care about LGBT “Latinos” or just the straight heteros? Like the blacks? How many black leaders have come to the fight for the black LGBT communinity.

Next he will pick an Islamic Arab who will make us all pray 5 times a day to “Allah”? I bet when that happens that “Justice” won’t vote for LGBT Equality!

Sotomayor was a strategic choice. Let’s face it, the Latino community is more critical to Obama than we are. By selecting her, he also outflanks the GOP. They aren’t going to win the LGBT vote to a much greater extent than they do now. But Latinos are up for grabs and if the GOP tries to block Sotomayor they’ll lose Latinos votes for years to come.

An out-lesbian on the other hand would have been a field day for the GOP. they could have had nationwide “prayer” rallies, Fox News could have had 24/7 “discussions” about the idea of a lesbian justice (just like O’Reilly pretty did about a gay American Idol finalist) and campaign contributions from churches and right-wing groups would have soared.

Obama knew that wouldn’t fly so he didn’t even consider it.

Doesn’t matter how old it is, and where it came from,,but it bieng part of our founding father’s CHECK AND BALANCES is not radical. This is a horrible pick by obama, one that will live in infamy.

If she is the liberal as claimed, what is her stand on LGBT equality? If she is confirmed and we’re going to hear a lot of dissent from the right wingers on this, this will make a total of six Catholic supreme court justices. I have a problem with that. Is she going to be the type who concedes to her religious beliefs rather that what is decent and just where we are concerned?

Robin, I haven’t seen Judge Sotomayor’s comment in its context. I’m sure we’ll all have ample opportunity to in the coming weeks. And I’ll bet what she was saying, in context, was the simple fact that the Circuit Courts are where most of the serious judicial decision-making takes place in this country; not on the Supreme Court.
