I hope the really wealthy gay men — people like David Geffen — are paying attention, just as I hope they’re joining the folks who are increasingly saying “too little, too late.” Obama said he would end don’t-ask-don’t-tell as soon as he took office; instead, he threw us under the bus again. He has allowed bigots like Tony (the PAC man, not the actor) Perkins to go on the pundit programs denouncing gays for attempting to garner “special rights.” Obama is aiding and abetting these geeks. David Mixner got the cold shoulder from Clinton when he tried to end the closeted military service rules and Mixner quoted him as saying, “I had no idea how much these people hate you.” Obama is doing nothing for us. Nothing. These paltry token gestures are so half-assed perhaps we should reject them just as Repub governors are rejecting the stimulus package.

How about “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell”. In the past Truman ordered discrimination to end in the military. Obama could do the same and order discrimination of gays to end in the military. The Dems need to grow some Brass Balls and push the end to discrimination DOMA and other Democratic goals. Stop watering down everything only to have the Republicans give no support anyway. Let them try to fillibuster and show the nation just how hateful to people they really are.

This was the LEAST Obama could do and it isn’t enough. I hear African-Americans claim that they were ignored by the Democratic Party for decades; this is undoubtedly true but it doesn’t make it right. They shouldn’t have had to wait for their Constitutionally guaranteed rights.

Nor is it right for Team Obama to make us wait; we have waited long enough. Besides, justice postponed is justice denied. If this is all they have to offer I’m voting third party or not at all. I certainly am not funding his re-election unless he delivers on all his promises. I don’t expect that he will.
