Shanna Moakler quits as Miss Calif. USA director

(Los Angeles) Former beauty queen Shanna Moakler has resigned as executive director of the Miss California USA pageant, a day after controversial titleholder Carrie Prejean was allowed to keep her crown.

Moakler, a former Miss USA , said in a statement issued by her publicist Wednesday that she no longer believes in the organization.

She had angrily accused Prejean on Monday of violating the contract she signed with pageant organizers by speaking out repeatedly on behalf of organizations opposed to gay marriage and by failing to disclose she had posed nearly nude for photographs as a teenager.

Pageant owner Donald Trump, who could have ousted Prejean, said Tuesday she will remain Miss California.

    • So, now we’ve reached the point where Donald Trump is deciding the proper or improper conduct for young ladies in the USA! Wow! Things are worse than I thought! Trump sure is the best qualified guy to set behavior standards for our society. Oh, my!!!

    • If I wanted to stop supporting Donald Trump what else could I do besides not watching his apprentice shows? What other shows, products, organizations and institutions is he behind? The more i think about his decision, the more unacceptable I find it.

    • Thanks for the clarification Gene. She won the title of Miss America in 1983 and gave up the crown in 1984 to be exact.

As far as changing sensibilities of both organizations somewhat since then. Perhaps they have however the written rules apparently have not. It was against the rules to have previously posed in any partial and/or total nude photos…PERIOD!!! I’ve seen Vanessa’s photos and despite her posing in very explicit poses with another female, the rules aren’t contingent on posing nude with another female or male, simply nude.

I applaud Shanna Moakler for making a bold statement that someone’s got to stand up for the thing we call “principles.” What lessons are little girls who look up to pageant queens going to learn from this? Pose nude (partially or otherwise), lie, break rules and still be rewarded for it?

I guess Carrie Prejean should be thanking her God that Miss USA is owned by a Billionaire with no scruples and has the power to bend and/or break rules arbitrarily.

    • Power to Shanna! Donald and Miss California are bigots and low-lifes.

    • I still wonder why we are talking about this whole thing. Also, Shanna Moakler posed for Playboy, so that invalidates her stance on the photos and being a role model for young girls. When are we gonna drop this whole thing? It is just a pageant and a soap box for Perez Hilton. Who cares.

    • I recall The Donald saying quite plainly about the drag queens on Celebrity Apprentice “I have no comment” and then he said “some of them creep me out”. This is about people who volunteered and raised money for the cause that won the show. The fans said they had a much better time at Joan’s party.Thank you would have also worked you pig.
Good on ya Shannon. Somebody has to have a spine. The entire Celebrity Apprentice also had Mr. Trump repeatedly telling Brandi how lovely she was (Nude model). Because lovely is certainly important in business. Maybe he needs a boycott. Maybe we should all wear our hair like him in protest.

    • I am very disappointed with Donald Trump. I didn’t think he would condone bigotry. Maybe Joan Rivers should resign as the celebrity apprentice.

    • The only reason Shanna became Miss USA is because the winner that year became Ms. Universe. She’s been in fist fights with Paris Hilton over men (this is a woman is her late 30’s) so she has no room to talk. She was never a good representative of California or the Miss USA system – and she can write me if she wishes. There a few other personal items i know regarding her alcohol and drug use

    • @Catmann
      A couple points of clarification:

Vanessa Williams was ousted from the Miss America organization, not the Miss USA. I don’t know that one is particularly better or worse than the other. Also, her photos, published in Penthouse, were completely nude and some with another woman. A couple of them could have been titled “Prelude to cunnilingus.” Come to think of it, that should have gotten her extra votes with the hetero males.

Lastly, her scandal was in 1984. I’m sure the sensibilities of both organizations have changed somewhat since then.

    • Shanna Moakler, you’ve got principles! Good for you for making a statement that Trump is too cowardly to do on his own!

    • The Miss California/USA/Universe contest is a sham. Look for Miss California’s next tittle to be Mrs. Donald Trump.

  • Catmann Said: May 13th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
    • My sentiments exactly. It’s one thing to speak your opinions on live national tv and continue to do so afterwards but rules are rules and she broke them by taking partially nude and nude photos and not disclosing it. Isnt this precisely why Vanessa Williams lost her crown back in 1983? Oh I forgot, she was also black and wouldn’t have been cut any slack.

Ok I get it now – the new standards to win Miss California or any other state for that matter are 1)that you be a proud and vocal bigot, 2)Christian, 3)Caucasian, 4)have previous soft pornographic pics in your vault and 5)lie about those pics when you sign the Miss USA contract.

    • Hats off and best of luck to you, Ms. Moakler. You’ll find a better, more fulfilling job.

    • This controversy will end 8/18/09. That’s my prediction.
