Sex-toy study at Duke raises some eyebrows

(Durham, NC) A campus religious leader is unhappy about a study at Duke University that invites female students to attend parties where they can buy sex toys.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Friday that the director of the Duke Catholic Center has lodged a complaint with researchers. The Rev. Joe Vetter says the study doesn’t promote relationships.

The study asks female students over age 18 to attend the events that are similar to Tupperware parties but with erotic toys, lingerie and games. The women complete surveys about their sexual attitudes before and after the parties and get product discounts.

A spokesman for Duke said the sex-toy party project went through the peer review process. Vetter says he plans to discuss the topic at Sunday mass.

    • Bless his heart! Father Vetter has about as much sense as the north end of a southbound plow mule.

Boys and girls have been putting things “up there” ever since corn and cucumbers started growing in the Garden of Eden .

If God hadn’t intended men to do that, She wouldn’t have put the prostate where she put it.

I can’t speak to women, except to say that my sisters tell me penetration with a vibrating object is SUBLIME!

      I agree.

      Cheers,

    • As far as I am concerned. ANYONE (male or female) who wants to purchase a sex toy of any kind is FULLY within their rights to do so.

The Roman Catholic (or any other) “Church” can bloody well GO FUCK ITSELF!

CHRIST ON A CRUTCH! The problems this planet faces, and these BASTARDS have a shit fit over how someone gets their kicks? (No WONDER I despise organized “religion”!)

    • Vetter’s just pissed ’cause these women made it this far without being raped by perv priests. Each woman is boss of her own beaver–ain’t none of them owned by that misogynist cult in Rome. Time for churches to pay taxes.

      @Judder–LOL!

    • Lol. You know what else doesn’t promote relationships? CELIBACY.

    • Religious leaders need to stay out of shit they have absolutely nothing to do with. Those jerks get away with not paying taxes, while us with limited human rights do have to pay. I don’t give a damn what the religious right-wing nutjobs think. How does sex not promote relationships? This coming from a celibate religious wacko! What a surprise; a religious leader is pissed about something. It is none of their damn business in the first place. Straight people use sex toys just as much as gay people do…duh!

    • Straight couples uses sex toys in the bedroom too and guys are happy to go to one of those stores and buy just about anything for themselves and their ladies. From what I can gather sex toys and lacy lingerie does help build good relations in all kinds of ways.

Heck every consenting adult and maybe teens are having sex and we’re all interested and curious about toys and undies but the religious leaders wouldn’t understand that. Religion should stay outside of the bedroom and leave all couples alone.

    • “The Rev. Joe Vetter says the study doesn’t promote relationships” I’m sure he seams straight loving hetero relationships right?….Honestly these people need to get a life. Nothing wrong with women finding pleasure, even if it doesn’t include the opposite sex. Grow up Rev Joe Vetter!!

    • I’m sorry the argument that this “doesn’t support relationships” is a load of hogwash. One of my close friends runs these parties, and the majority of her customer base is purchasing toys to use with their partners. She has had several customers tell her she personally saved their marriage. Supporting a wide diverse open sexuality that you are comfortable sharing with the person or people you choose to share your life with is at the basic CORE of promoting relationships.

    • Alex_Parrish: you are so right about these churches needing to be taxed. I am outraged at the way they launder money to deprive us of our rights. People who donate to these churches that give the donations to political campaigns to deny us equal rights get tax deductions, whereas our donations to secure equal rights are not tax deductible. Yet another “fag tax.”

    • To the RC Chaplin – You don’t play the game, you don’t make the rules… Unless they are holding these sessions in your chapel, it’s none of your friggin business. God forbid — they might teach some innocent RC woman how NOT to make babies and you would have one less child to indoctrinate and brainwash. Thousands are dying in an illegal and immoral war and you are outraged by sex-toys. That is typical of the church. It is time to tax these SOBs; if they re going to be political, they shouldn’t be tax-exempt.
