Senate still searching for vehicle for hate crimes bill

As expected, the Senate will try to pass the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act as an amendment to another bill instead of a stand-alone piece of legislation.
HRC spokesperson Trevor Thomas told the Washington Blade ”We understand that Senate leadership does not believe a hearing or mark up on the bill is necessary and plans to bring it directly to the floor as an amendment to another moving vehicle.”He said that HRC is pushing the Senate to act before the August recess. “After more than a decade and nine successful votes in Congress, there is no good reason why this bill can’t be sent to the president’s desk for his signature.
The bill passed the House on April 29, 249-175. President Obama says that he supports the bill.

I just viewed the Conservapedia website. Those people and very sick and very dangerous. Replace the word Homosexual with Jew and you would have a document published under Hitler’s Nazi Germany. Unfortunately, the KKK is alive and well in this country. They have just changed their focus and their name. The frightening aspect is that there are so many ignorant people who will buy their trash.
This passed the House of Representatives back in 2007. Although it would’ve been nice to see a stand alone bill and Rose Garden signing, I’ve given up on that. There are anti-gay hate crimes being committed in this country every day. And the victims’ families shouldn’t have to wait any longer. I don’t care if the Senate attaches it to the “Neuter Your Pets Act” and Obama signs it in a basement cellar. Just get it done already.
@equalnotspecial:
I couldn’t agree with you more here. Mostly I’ve heard of the gay rights movement (which is the name it will be remembered by in history) being labeled the homosexual agenda, giving it such a negative connotation. And if you want to see a good list of what someone who opposes the “homosexual agenda” look at this on Conservapedia (the young-earth creationist Christian form of Wikipedia): http://conservapedia.com/Homosexual_Agenda
I find it so odd that to request equal rights we’re being blamed with destroying America’s “morals and values” (snicker, snicker, just being cynical here).
Geez. C’mon pass this bill stop hating. Pass this Senators. Those who don’t let this bill pass, let blood be upon your hands for every single LGBTQIA person who gets murder,raped,tortured, harrassed, and whatever violence people do to another being who is living and breathing in life.
..and president Obama said he will repeal “don’t ask , don’t tell”
For those who don’t know, the religious extremists have labeled this bill the pedophile protection act, and claim that pedophilia is a sexual orientation and would therefore be covered, despite the fact that sexual orientation has already been defined in law as hetero, homo, and bi sexual only. They are pressuring congress to deny the same protections they enjoy as a result of their choice of religion. While I believe repeal of DADT should be a priority, we need to let our reps. know this should be passed as soon as they can, and that we want to see action on repeal of DADT as well. The religious right are putting the pressure on to fight any and all moves toward equality, so we must make our voices heard as well.
I find it odd that the Senate would care about gay violence, after all they made it quite clear where they stand on Gay Marriage, we are such a threat. Lets also make something clear, does the, “United States of America” have freedom of religeon or not, I would really like to know. I’m sure that if you’re Christian, you don’t have to ask that question, so now why don’t we ask the Christians how they really feel about a special law prohibiting violence against Homosexuals?
President Obama lies about everything else. I don’t know about his support on this bill.
