i think we should appoint Don Imus or maybe David Duke to head HRC, oh wait too controversial? Really? we should we be uphold to standards that obviously many black groups do not hold themselves?
MLK is dead and gone, the past is the past, just let it go.

I love that I can hear yet another hypocrite be all hoity toity about marriage and procreation – then go to another news site the same day and hear about a woman marrying for the 5th time at 113.
Good golly Alveda, ya think they’re gonna have a bunch of bouncing babies??
Sad that certain members of Dr. King’s family are a mere stain on their family’s tapestry.

Bayard Rustin, an openly gay African-American, was a co-founder of the SCLC. Here’s what he said about gay rights and African American civil rights:

Today, blacks are no longer the litmus paper or the barometer of social change. Blacks are in every segment of society and there are laws that help to protect them from racial discrimination. The new “niggers” are gays. . . . It is in this sense that gay people are the new barometer for social change. . . . The question of social change should be framed with the most vulnerable group in mind: gay people.

The late great Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr marched for freedom and equality for us all without any personal prejudice or bias in his way. i hope that his beautiful daughter will aspire to the same principles in her adminstration. She is now working on behalf of all of the people all of the time. Once again it is about sexual responsibility not sexual regulation. Good luck and God bless.

I might have missed something in the article above or in my research into this woman, but from what I can tell she is only opposed to gay marriage, not gay civil rights. Indeed, some of what she’s said in the past indicates considerable support for gay rights.

I’m not defending her, but just because someone is opposed to gay marriage doesn’t mean they are a homophobe who thinks all gays should be put to death, and nor does it mean that they are incapable of supporting the gay community on other issues.

She is no gay champion. She has stood against the gay community on an important issue. It doesn’t mean she is a bigot or the enemy. The gay community will quickly find itself standing alone if it turns on everyone who refuses to support all of its objectives.

Of all people…her stance sickens me. Many gays supported their civil rights…funny how quickly she forgot that. Also her attitudes are NO different than those who killed her father. She should be ashamed…Equal rights for just some I suppose!

SCLC’s decision is a problem because it will drive a wedge between SCLC and other civil rights groups (which support gay equality). I imagine the NAACP isn’t happy about this.

I’m not waiting for her to prove her own actions wrong.

I want equality now. Today. She ain’t ready for that, I don’t care about that organization.

1992 I hosted G.L.A.A.D. Steering Committee meeting because SCLC boycotted Dallas.

Ain’t been in a mood for 27 years at this point to put up with bigots.
