Thinking about our struggle for freedom, I notice we’ve centered upon marriage, whereas African-Americans did not. The Civil Rights Movement sought equality in employment, education, transportation and daily life (e.g., seating in restaurants, access to restrooms). Maybe our leaders should rethink our strategy? After all, some of us disapprove of marriage as a religious-based institution. so our opposition to Prop 8 is less-passionate than it was when (was it Prop 4?) the homophobes tried to fire lesbian and gay educators. As far as Prop 8 goes, it is unconstitutional and the electorate will just have to deal with a court overturn. They’ll scream and shout about their abridged rights, but at least they’ve rights and no civilised nation votes on the rights of their citizens, with the exception of the Nazis and the Neocons.

Wayne: While we may be an more important constituency in the Democratic party than in the Republican, to think that Obama needs to address this issue before he comes into office is silly. It would be like asking FD Roosevelt to concentrate on the paucity of 1930s American Literature the day he was sworn in. Believe it or not, the USA has bigger problems than ours. Yes, ours will be resolved one way or another over time. Just ask anyone under 30. I believe that we will survive a few more years without the right to marry. I don’t believe our economy and military and diplomatic power will survive without immediate attention. You can’t possibly believe that a pres.elect is going to wade into the culture wars before he takes office at a time when the nation as a whole is in crisis. We will overcome. But let’s get our national priorities right. And your tone is insulting. It’s fine that you’re insulted, but calling others idiots and pathetic don’t make me very sympathetic to your sense of urgency. You sound angry, like McCain, like Palin. Save your anger – we’re all pissy. But we’re not idiots or pathetic. Some of us think it’s time to get our nation back on its feet. What happens in California concerns 10% of the country’s population. The economy and wars affect 100% of us, and a good chunk of the planet. Stop insulting people, and keep posting websites and useful info that people can use. But tone down the insults – “we” are not the source of your unhappiness.

GLAAD and Ellen complained to the ladies of The View yesterday about their erroneous and outright bigoted coverage of Prop 8. Yesterday Sheri (who still thinks the world is flat) tried to use the Bible as a way of defending her view that Gays should be denied the right to marry. So lets discuss. The Bible says a lot of things Sheri. The Bible says that Slaves should obey their masters, but Americans still decided slavery was wrong. The Bible says it’s an abomination to wear cloth woven of two different fabrics, and yet I can’t help but notice all the poly-lycra-cotton blends the ladies of The View wear so often. The Bible also says it’s an abomination to eat shell fish. I wonder how many of the ladies on The View have eaten shrimp or lobster? Shouldn’t their rights and equality be taken away?
