(Bourbonnais, Illinois) An elementary school bus driver has been charged with leading a homophobic attack on a 10-year old student passenger.
The Kankakee Sheriff’s Police Department said that the boy was taunted by the driver who then encouraged other students to chase and beat the child.Chief Deputy Ken McCabe said the incident occurred on a Bourbonnais Elementary School District bus which was returning students to their homes last Friday.
McCabe said the driver repeatedly called the boy “gay.”
”When the boy got off the bus, the driver encouraged several other students to go after him and tackle him. Our investigation shows that occurred,” McCabe told The Daily Journal.
He also said the driver is under investigation for joining the students in chasing the boy and grabbing him.
Bourbonnais School District officials would only say the driver has been terminated.
Charged with mob action, endangering the life of a child and battery is Russell A. Schmalz, 46.

And this is all encouraged by the bully pulpits of the republican party,eg Bush, the right wing christians, and of course the Pope.
Mankind hasn’t learned anything yet. The confluence of government and religion acting together has been the nightmare of western civilization.
The guy who did this should go to jail, just as if he had beaten this kid. And the religious freaks who encourage it should also be held guilts of proxy crimes.
I know they will scream to high heaven, though their cries will only be heard in hell. Where they all belong.
A psychologist told me that he saw bush as a dry and damaged goods alcoholic, without the least of intellectual curiosity. A Psychiatrist I met, who did profiles of terrorists for the CIA, called Bush a sociopath.
A sociopath is someone who doesn’t care who they hurt or how badly they hurt people, as long as they get their way. The next step is a psychopath, who enjoys hurting people. Hitler, Stalin, and Saddam were psychopaths. And lots of the right wing churches that feed hatred of gays, while they politely say “we love you” (if you cow tow to their superstitions and hatreds) are best described as sociopathic institutions.
Just got to understand the big picture.
I cannot believe this was condoned by the school-district. Children can be very brutal at those ages, which they can easily be swayed into doing things.
Unfortunately, the State of Illinois DOES NOT have a hate crime provision for gender identity.
Gender identity protected? No
Illinois law explicitly addresses actual or perceived gender under the hate crimes law. As yet, Illinois has not addressed gender identity-based violence under these provisions of the hate crimes law. 720 ILCS 5/12-7.1 (2001).
Regardless of “WHY” or “WHAT CAUSED” the 46 year old male bus driver to think that this 10 year old boy was what HE said “GAY”, that still does NOT give HIM the RIGHT to call him names and then tell the other kids to go tackle him and then possibly/allegedly JOIN IN THE ATTACK!!!
DO NOT BLAME THE VICTIM HERE!!!

Ja’Quez! How do you know that the child was not a transsexual or transgender girl who can not live in a way natural to her?
Feminine behavior in what others perceive to be boys is highly visible (unlike same sex attraction [especially at age 10]) and severely bullied.
What is between a ten your old child’s legs is not justification for bullying (especially of this magnitude) whether or not this child is transsexual, transgender, gender variant, gender, non-conforming or even cisgender.
This is NUTS! Illinois has a hate crimes law and I will be sending the State Attorney in Kankakkee County, John Boyd, a letter regarding this OUTRAGEOUS situation!!!

I am just sickened by this. Yet another example of the absolute hatred of one against a mob, and encouraged by a so called grown man. Acivil lawsuit is unfortunately all we have in America to provide so called justice. What about the lifelong fear this boy will face? Do you really think vast amounts of $ will compensate him? I dare say in my own heart that this young man would probably wish to see all involved in his torture be put to the gallows. I can’t say I blame him. I was raped when ten by my s-father and all my life I’ve had nightmares about that and the beatings and mental anguish I endured. Plus I found out much later in life that sob had also beaten my mom. I could tear this f-rs arms off. Hopefully he is DEAD and died in screaming agony. We need to absolutely have tough anti-hate laws in our country. What an example this story has been. And the “man” will no doubt be slapped on his hands and be told to behave himself in the future. Life imprisonment for this thug and prison rape for him sounds good to me. Money will permit this family to move the hell away from this shithole they live in. Let the fine families who live there go on with their pitiful lives and by all means beat the shit out of all queers. According to one writer he needs to tuffen up. You sir, need to learn to spell. Maybe put aside your auto theft4 game and read something intelligent. My heart felt love for the boy and his true friends. I feel terrible for this boy. I can only imagine the trama he’s been through even before this attack. I hope he can make it through and keep a sunny demeanor as to not let these barbaric people win. I suffered many years of abuse with no one to help so I know how difficult his situation is. He needs to be his own best advocate and look out for his health, inteligence and safety or else others will continue the attacks.
