We do not want to talk about it so that means it will "disappear".Who knows perhaps they(SC legislators)are right. Maybe we should just break it on down and further discuss the new"FAD" of being bisexual and the fights it causes in both hetero and homo homes and households since these poor souls can not and do no walk in the light of their truest self since they will be ostracized or have an "A" tatooed to themselves concerning. Wake up SC. Grow up SC. It is ok to discuss and actually will prove quite beneficial to a lot of people and may even prevent a murder or two but that would be to Proactive and Unchristian. Well the social workers and psychologists will keep their jobs and the late night dispatcers needed for the increase in domestic violence calls for the real not the recorded reason. So if we do not see it or talk about it it is not there. You do not see me I am not here.

What the hell????!! "Traditional" violence and abuse only occurs in man/woman, boy/girl relationships?? This must be related to "traditional" marriage, with the violence only allowed between straight couples. What a weirdo.

Damn am I liberal or just a moderate Republican, born in Charleston,SC. Spent the last 12 years living in IRMO,SC. I'm not even 20 and yet even I can see that this is ridiculous, but hey only in SC...and for years I thought that I was conservative, I also used to be baptist as well, now I'm still Christian but I'm not homophobic, but wow this is freakin' ridiculous.

I encourage gay and lesbian youth and their seniors to write to their respective state and federal representatives concerning this matter. You know some time ago it was a popular belief that the Negro was mot worthy of humanity now this foulness has fallen upon how the state of South Carolina entreats a very large portion of its citizens. Gay and Lesbian Students unite and fight this prejudice. Let the state of South Carolina know that you do matter. You are worthy of being protected and capable of being representatives in both our State and Federal Governments. And might I remind the State House and Senate of South Carolina that homosexuals pay taxes too.

It does kind of sound like they were originally saying that only straight men (boys) abuse their partners doesn't it. Does that mean that non-traditional relationships tend to be ethically/morally superior.

I hope this absurd bill passes for the sole purpose of challenging it in FEDERAL COURT!...

All they need to find is one out and proud kid with supportive parents who want to go along with the suit. It seems this would be rife with equal-protection violations. They are mandating for no rational purpose, that certain students be treated as if they don't exist in the context of a PUBLIC program in the PUBLIC schools.

It doesn't seem legal in the least that educational programs could be required by law to "leave something out", because "some" people have a problem with the existence of that "something".

This is so...sick and twisted. Did the Rep. Lawmakers actually use the phrase "Traditional Domestic Violence"? Now they're going to concern themselves with "protecting" the Traditional definition of domestic violence as well?

Wow. What is it with conservatives and tradition? Yeah, don't let those gays sully something so sacred as our good ole fashion wife beating!...

So the South should secede? Matthew Shepherd was killed in Wyoming, not South Carolina. Prop 8 passed in California, not in a bible-thumping state like Mississippi. Ohio and Michigan have more sweeping legislation against gays getting married than many Southern states.

As for the Confederacy, someone needs to be reminded that Oklahoma was where President Jackson forced the Cherokee, Creek and Shawnee nations (among others) to relocate. The Trail of Tears, remember? Oklahoma wasn't a state, it was the Indian Territory. Only later, when it was invaded by whites, did it become the redneck Baptist tornado magnet.

As much as I'm resigned to Southern legislators spending their days fixated on gays, I'm tired of those who come on here and present life outside the South as so vastly and self-evidently superior. It's smug and childish and achieves nothing positive. Yeah, we all make these comments, but sometimes it's too damn much piling on of the very obvious. You feel that strongly about it, then do something to make South Carolina better. Show some support for gays down there and help them make it a better place.

Too Bad!...Lincoln and the GOP, circa 1861, were wrong. We should have let Dixie secede. I wonder if they would have electric or indoor plumbing and running water yet? Would they still have slavery and would they just have become the equivalent of another "bananna republic" that raises cotton, tobacco, rice and peanuts instead of bananas? SC was the first to secede then and I for one would welcome their departure now. WAKE UP down there and elect a better and smarter mix of politicians.

This is so sad. My boyfriend lives in South Carolina, while I live in North Carolina. I'm quite shocked at how much more progressive North Carolina is comapred to South Carolina. But, I have to say that my boyfriend lives in the worst state in the USA. Fucking rednecks. They ruin everything!
