Uh...folks whining about "street" hookers need to get a clue and wake up to the current times.

If there was no threat of arrest, 99.9% of ALL prostitution would be advertised, arranged and paid for on the internet. Private contractor hookers could get i.d. credit card numbers, a photo etc. all online before having the customer over to their house or business space.

With it being "illegal", people can't currently advertise on the internet. They have cops waisting time and money surfing craigs list for potential hooker ads and making busts! How dumb.

ALL the strangers who hook up via the computer for FREE and somehow...if a person recieves a tip/payment/gift from the person they just hooked up with, the sky is going to fall? If I go out to dinner with a stranger I just hooked up with, am I a prostitute? If I hook up with someone I met online and ask them five bucks because I forgot about the toll to get back, am I a hooker?

Legalized prostitution would all but alleviate the need for one to be a common "street walker" and would no doubt up the class of the average john. Legalized prostitution would alleviate the need for the "street protection" offered by pimps as, like I said, most of the hooking business would go to websites!

MOST other countries don't bother criminalizing the consensual behavior of adults in this capacity. Why are we always stuck in the dark ages of Puritanism? It's gets so tiring.

Understand whatcha meant Trevor but ...
this prostitution proposal *appears* more 'liberal' ... and Yet; asking religious-conservatives to institutionalize [that is, to perennially legalize (and permanently permit)] non-heterosexual "marriage" might be seen by some as more 'radical' (and/or fundamentally threatening) ... ?

This is a terrible idea. It means if a prostitute is outside my door trying to solicit tricks, the police won't even be able to make him/her leave..

Sigh...I can just hear the shrieks of protest from the fundies now. "This is what happens when you don't stone homosexuals to death as God commands!" etc. Thanks San Francisco, you suck.

So qjersey,

Most of these "street prostitutes" [let alone all residents of Nevada] *have* private domiciles (i.e. homes).

[as an aside, though NOT directed toward you in particular qjersey, why would anyone presume that those of us in the ( for lack of a better phrase) "gay liberation" movement would cow-tow to the purveyors of gay assimilation [e.g. those of you for whom civil unions are somehow not enough] when *your* borderline-puritan posturings (on issues like this) seem to subtly disenfranchise certain of *our* 'concerns'] ?!?

Regulation is NOT the answer, the brothels in Nevada is nothing more than state sanctioned pimping where the owners take half the money and forbid sex workers from leavin the premises and then charge them "rent" for their bedrooms and make them buy all their food and toiletries and the brothel commissary. Street prostitution should be outlawed, what you do in your own home is no ones business.

California like Nevada should have the prostitutes work legally in state-taxed and licensed establishments out of town (situated away from residential streets) where safe sex, testing by doctors, condom use and good treatment of the guys and gals being "rented" for an evening of fun are tequired by the state. And let the state get some revenue.

That is the beas comp;omise for this situation.
